caligraphy l Lost art of the fountain Pen?

I read the other day a lot of the younger people don't know how to write in cursive anymore.

I do calligraphy. I've done wedding announcements for friends and pieces for decoupage and crafts.

Yes, that's true . . . and indeed, a sad indicator of the times.

Kids don't know how to write in cursive or do math without a calculator . . . do kids today even have to do book reports anymore and if they do, don't they just cut & paste from internet?

Future generations will have no skill sets other than hand-to-eye coordination involved in using pc and spending hours every day on facebook. Bleh!

Calligraphy is an art.

the cursive written is a tried and true beautification of the English language in it's hand form.

I have a couple of fountain pens. It's such an expressive way to write. It almost feels like a connection to generations in the near and distant past. I like it.

I also had taken a course in calligraphy at the local community college. But it's been a few years - I need to take it up again.

I can't understand why they won't continue teaching cursive in school ... how else are they supposed to sign contracts, love notes, greeting cards, etc?

If I ever get blessed with kids - they are definitely learning cursive and calligraphy.

i don't do calligraphy per se, but i do use a fountain pen whenever I write by hand. The bulk of my writing is actually typing, though. I'm a professional writer -- if I handwrote things for customers I'd have to retype it all t0 get it into a form they could use. So songs, poems, notes and letters is what I write with a fountain pen.
