Whatever it is, it's manmade. CERN comes to mind, as do the next-generation electromagnetic weapons (currently in testing). Could also be fracking or building the underground bunkers. Could be a combination of all of these. Don't go woo-woo on us, OP.

this weekend i was at my friends house, we sat on the porch admiring the rain and drinking wine and we started hearing subtle shaking booming sounds, not thunder at all. we couldnt tell where it was coming from, sometimes we would feel it vibrate underneath us, other times we could feel it vibrating downward from the sky. this went on every few minutes for about an hour. we just sat staring wide eyed at each other saying, "did you hear that one?" and "i just heard it again!"

Yeah that poshas gotten long so let me paraphrase it... The tundra is moving south and the dessert is moving north... When the to meet there is a audible reaction similar to throwing a steak in a hot pan... What follows is steam.. Water... Then debris ... Molten material... Basically thee is a chance ol faithful could be spitting up more thanwater .. If things persist on the course they are on.
