I think that the Earth is possibly wobbling out of control. The wobble would explain the starts being out of place at times while at other times they seem in their proper location. The moon is most likely experiencing the same wobble and is causing a change in position also.

Ever since I could remember its done that...

my grandma who was 99 when she passed used to have this old saying...

"The moon is like a bowl of water.
when that bowl is tilted the water is spilling,
when its on its side its empty,
and when its smiling its full of water just waiting to spill"

The old ways used that to predict rain... dont know how well it works... but people been seeing the "Cheshire Smile" for centuries

No matter what you grandma said, I have been looking at the moon for well over 50 years and have not seen these chelshire moons until the last couple of years.

Tonites moon is the strangest I've seen yet.

Here is the first article Wikipedia made on it, in 2004.

[link to en.wikipedia.org]

It's a little bare, but the gist is still there. This has been happening forever.

In the other topic someone listed a book from 1909 explaining it I think. And a picture at least 20 or 30 years old with it.

you havent looked up much have you?

Cos in my 27 years I've seen the Cheshire smile more times than you can shake a stick at...

and for the last 5 years every single time there is a Cheshire smile... somebody gets online and claims pole shift or the moon is off... "I havent seen that in my whole life!"

I dont understand how someone could go 50 years without noticing the smiling moon...
