This thread started around 4am, and was spawned from another.
The Astro is still up and would guess pouring over the data, looking for the source of the error.

Did it ever get checked, the theard where an unidentified object was
near Leonis.? Switch and bait? Distraction?

I checked and this amounts to 0.1 of a degree. Which seems insignficant, but on the other hand, perhaps something is causing it, but it seems minor.
 Quoting: Sungaze_At_Dawn

If it was another body causing it, it would mean it would continually increase.

If it was solar, it would mean it would continually increase.

If it was galactical, it would mean it would continually increase.

If it was core-related, it would mean it would continually increase.

I can't think of anything that would cause this (assuming it's even true), that would mean this would stop or revert.

You know, if your calculations prove correct, you might write up an article and submit it for peer review to a scientific journal.
 Quoting: Nexus-9

Yeah, so maybe in a year or so from now we may have "an official" confirmation to this, right? =D

Just see what happened with 9/11: After thorough examinations, Niels Harrit et al published a peer reviewed article of remains of explosives found in the dust of the WTC towers. The result: everyone involved in publishing the study got mocked, the chief editor of the magazine had to resign, and the "official truth" about the thing still hasn't changed after many years.

The so called "scientific consensus" is a travesty in itself. Science should always be open to new ideas and observations, including ones that may appear wacky to begin with. But alas, "science" has by and large taken the place of religion and become a force of repression rather than emancipation.

Fortunately, that's not the whole picture. But still, waiting for mainstream "science" and/or media to take seriously anything considered to be "impossible", you may have to wait forever.

You mention the hypothetical , tongue-in-cheek assassination of other astronomers discovering something "they" don't want discovered and announced. Is this something that is always or normally being monitored by others, most specifically amateurs (not professionally paid NASA employees)? I'm just wondering if it's a measurement that is just typically taken for granted and not really checked on outside of circles like ours where celestial objects are regularly accused of not being where they should. Would others have noticed this or be looking for it?
 Quoting: Gratia Plena

They would notice it, even if they weren't deliberately looking for it. For instance, some amateurs polar aligned their telescopes using an iterative method that requires Polaris to be at the expected offset from the north celestial pole. Other amateurs also have permanently polar aligned telescopes. These guys would start to notice that their polar alignments are no longer as accurate as they should be, resulting in a drift in declination during long exposure astrophotography.
 Quoting: Dr. Astro

Astro,

How long before you are able to confirm your findings.

Also, can you explain what may happen in laymans terms?

I will try to check again tonight if the clouds part ways.
 Quoting: Dr. Astro

Thanks, hopefully you will be able to repeat your test.

Are you willing to comment on what could or could not be happening and perhaps the cause? Do you have an opinion on this?

Also, Astro, why were you measuring in the first place. Do you suspect something is going on?

I've always enjoyed your honest posts and appreciate your insight.

When was the last time you checked the measurement and it was correct?

If Polaris actually IS 6 arcminutes off, then you could roughly guesstimate how the time it took.

Astro you may find that the magnetic poles are shifting at a dramatic rate, and possibly the true north and south poles are shifting as well.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 16708181

He's talking abut the celestial poles, not magnetic...
[link to en.wikipedia.org]

Celestial poles would be like if you had a rod going through the center of the earth (which the earth rotated on... its 'axis' if you will), and it stuck out on either end, the end of the rod in the NORTH would be pointing to a patch of sky near Polaris.

What Astro is saying is that the 'rod' is not pointing quite where it should be. Its off by a teeny tiny amount.

"Axial Rotation" anomaly has little to nothing to do with magnetic poles.

Very interesting Astro, thanks for posting!

say it isn't so!

Gee, lets see... This video was uploaded September 25th

The TITLE says it all...

Something I and several others have been saying for months now how more and more anomalies connected to SYMPTOMS of a POLE SHIFT would begin MANIFESTING around NOVEMBER/DECEMBER which would PERPLEX the world of Science
Thread: Are these all connected????

And so with Astro's ANNOUNCEMENT that SUMTHIN AIN'T RIGHT in the STARS and EARTH's "AXIAL ROTATION" (which can easily be associated with such "symptoms"), we enter into what may be the FIRST STAGES of science OFFICIALLY having to confront and CONSIDER the real possibility of what the
188 LEY LINES & QUAKE CYCLE in the above video (and other evidence presented from various sources), have already been warning about...

a GEOLOGICAL POLE SHIFT in 2013

a notion which has been INCONCEIVABLE and ridiculed as even possible anytime soon, let alone in 2013!

oh the irony of it all!

If this turns out to be a valid deviation... it stands to reason that it will increase in effect, as the previous poster stated.

What's funny to me is the ill-mannered vehemence with which a great deal of these posters decried any anomalies in the past..

Last time I checked was January, but something like this would not be able to remain hidden for long before amateurs would either find it and mention it, or entire astronomy neighborhoods get wiped out. Last I checked the guys at Arizona sky village and chiefland astronomy village didn't all suddenly drop dead.

Hey Astro,

You said that Orion was where it was supposed to be yet Polaris may not be... If the earths axial rotation was off, wouldn't all the constellations have measurement anomalies as well?

Obviously I'm no astronomer and there very well may be a good explanation for this, so looking forward to seeing what you come up with tonight.
Hopefully you get good weather this evening.

If I went and got a telescope, how hard would it be for a beginner to take these measurements themselves?
 Quoting: CalmShock

I believe that the pole star is not always constant. In other words, it changes and perhaps we are getting a new one. But we may have to re-incarnate to see it.

I won't be seeing it from earth because i don't plan on re-incarnating here ever again if possible. We have not seen anything yet.

I don't know. An explanation wasn't in that video either. But, I've had to destroy or have destroyed all kinds of material at places I've worked as well.

There's no telling what type of information a professional may have that could be damaging to national security.

If you die, resign, fail a personality check, whatever... and you have mappings for satellites, for example, your stuff is going to get confiscated or destroyed.

But, the point still remains, most of them died YEARS apart, and the average age was like 70 years old..which is pretty 'normal' I was just saying a bunch of deaths spanned that far apart and with that average age doesn't mean anything.

The same video could be made for a group of retail workers, factory workers, insurance salesman...just because the people happen to have a more exciting job, doesn't make it deviant.
