Berlusconi Comeback? The Italian government of Mario Monti survived a confidence vote on economic measures in the Senate on Thursday despite a walkout by Silvio Berlusconi's PDL party that indicated mounting political tensions ahead of an election next spring. Monti's technocrat government won the vote by 127 to 17 votes with 23 abstentions after People of Freedom (PDL) senators abandoned the chamber because of earlier criticism of Berlusconi by Industry Minister Corrado Passera. In an increasingly fevered pre-election atmosphere, Berlusconi dropped a strong hint late on Wednesday that he could go back on previous statements and run for a fifth term as prime minister in the election, expected in March. Berlusconi Comeback? There's no real solution to the current situation: A) most don't like Monti (no progress under him) B) most don't want Mr B back (setback) C) just leave alone bringing back the communists (an even further setback) D) huh? bring in a comedian (Beppe Grillo) (road to "unknown") Although rather than A, B or C, D would be quite a ride although the lack of "appearing serious" would prevent him from getting to far I guess. We are in REAL need of fresh blood, people like Ron Paul but in their late 40s..... the actual class of politicians appears to belong 101% to the same club of either being there due -to family ties -to favours granted -business ties with the "powerfull" -to having "bought" their seat -"rewards" to pleasures granted to somebody -just keep their mouth shut -avoid imprisonment |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 3932499 As an outsider, I don't see why this would be a coup, Monti was never elected anyway. He was placed there by tptb but easy come easy go I'd say. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 3932499 Quite the opposite. Berlusconi, like it or not, was elected. He was removed from outside and replaced by an unelected government. |

Berlusconi Comeback? Why do you Italians let these politicians play house with your lives? Get rid of them permanently. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24957083 There doesn´t seem to be a peaceful way to do so. Besides, the gate has remained open. So, people who would have the most reason to take matters into their hands have had a much better alternative: emigration. There has been a huge outflow of people and capital from Italy. Italians are generally much more inclined to adapt than to revolt. But if they push the envelope a bit more, who knows... |

Berlusconi Comeback? and so he will be gone soon.... bye bye Mario "Three Cards" Monti..... Quoting: pray_Italy 29395325 Honestly, I have no clue how bad it will be getting AFTERWARDS, but at least one bad period will be over soon. Too soon to celebrate. It´s highly unlikely they don´t have a plan. Esce dalla porta, rientra dalla finestra. |
