"Deaths in Car chase are ruled Homicides"

One week ago two black people, 43 year old Timothy Russell and 30 year old Malissa Williams were driving in a 1979 Chevrolet Malibu outside the Justice Center down town at 10:30 at night. The officers thought they heard gunfire, but it is suspected the car just backfired.

The police gave a 25 minute high speed car chase that covered 22 miles, and ended with
13 Cleveland Police Officers (all white) firing 137 rounds into the Malibu with 47 rounds hitting their targets.

24 of the rounds riddled the head, neck and body of passenger (female) Williams, and 23 rounds struck the head neck and extremities of Russell the driver.

This happened when their car pulled into a lot from which there was no escape. They were sitting in the car with no weapons. None were found in the vehicle or shell casings.

This is insane--either the police wanted them dead really badly for some unknown reason, or the police are absolutely out of control.

My question, is why would this pair flee in their car unless they suspected the police wanted them dead anyway?

The Paper is saying it is their fault for fleeing--yet 137 rounds into unarmed people????

This is nuts.
