i feel your pain, OP just the other day i took my (filling-free) 11 year old son for a check up so, everything is AOK, dentist just says he needs to brush more thoroughly (we use natural toothpaste) so he is just chatting away to me and taking a look and the next thing i know he says 'ive just applied a fluoride spray on the back teeth to protect them. no eating/drinking for half an hour, ok?'  Yep, we use natural toothpaste as well and it seems the dentists get pissed off and make you feel like a bad parent if you do not get the fluoride treatment. yep. i was silently outraged but was sideblinded because there was no way of knowing what he was up to until he told me i really felt like saying something but you just know he would think i was a kook plus i didnt want to freak out or embarrass my boy the worst thing is - like with yourself - they just do the deed and THEN tell you mind you, i had a ton of amalgam fillings as a kid and im fine
