Re: Americans Want Pot
Pot should absolutely be legal. Just like with anything, it is the parents job to teach their young how to handle and enjoy certain things in life. Once you force the law to be the parents, you are doing more harm than good for society.

I wonder, since you are soo against it, what are your reasons? Do you have any real reasons besides stereotypes?

Do you have any scientific evidence it does bodily harm? That it is highly addictive? What is your reason?

I used to be a pot head myself. My divorced smoked a lot and left it where an 11 year old me could get a hold of it and get high. I would sell it at school. Me and my buddies were not getting high enough so we started doing cocaine. Well cocaine and alcohol isn't a very good combination for someone in the 10th grade. What they say about weed being a gateway drug is true but that's not my main reason.

The main reason it should not be legal is because it sends a bad message to our youth. What if my mom never smoked and what if I had never touched it? What if instead she had bibles laying around the house? I've had it rough but I wouldn't take any of it back. I had to go through it to find Jesus and I'm finally ok now.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 28082258

ahhh I see. Since it was a gateway for you, it must be for everyone? Since you were irresponsible, everyone must be.

I smoke, but I have never done any other drug in my life. So the gateway drug crap is only true if the person WANTS to do other drugs.

Don't tell ME I can't do it just because YOU couldn't handle it.

Both of my parents smoked when I was growing up. They tried to keep it from us, but we were aware. Pops owns a successful business, brings home ~250k/year (not gloating, just benchmarking) and still smokes.

My brother and I both smoke. I went to college, got an engineering degree, and started my own business. My younger brother was able to buy his first house at age 21.

Please, explain to me again how parents' use of marijuana ruins children's lives......

A recent survey suggests other states may be ready to follow Washington and Colorado’s example: it found that 58 percent of registered voters favor legalizing pot, the highest level of support ever recorded in a national poll. [link to www.thedailybeast.com]

That percentage probably increases by 5 to 10 percent annually as people who bought the war on drugs and other propaganda pass away more and more.

So glad to see that Chong fella say that the DEA will be no more in the future.

Such a waste of money for the US taxpayer on such a fascist organization.

Hate to see people lose jobs, but he is right, the DEA has got to go and never should have existed in the first place.

Y'all should try putting God first instead of putting your selfish pleasures first.

Before you do something think: Would God approve of what I'm doing? Am I glorifying God by my actions? Is this action I'm about to do going to give off the message that I live by God's standards?

It's called a conscience folks.

And who are you to tell me that smoking a natural herb/plant is against 'God's' standards?

What are 'God's' standards? Please provide me with a verifiable and undeniable list of exactly what 'God' approves and disapproves? Can't do this? Well then you cannot play the 'God' card then can you? Maybe 'God' does not approve of you using his name as a means for forcing your own individual and subjective sense of morality onto others when they should be arriving at their own conclusions? Did you ever think about that?

P.S. the definition of 'conscience' is as follows:

- an inner sense of what is right or wrong in one's conduct or motives

I don't see any mention of 'God' in the definition of conscience. What makes you believe it's supposed to be about an external deity's judgement and not YOUR OWN SENSE OF JUDGEMENT. Do atheists have no conscience and no sense of right or wrong if they don't believe in 'God'? Ever heard of the Golden Rule? Or Empathy?

Why does there have to be two extreme sides for everything. Maybe you guys are all wrong. Maybe all you potheads really are wasting your lives away by not being in this reality everyday. Maybe it is wrong to drug yourself just to get through the day / relax / have fun / alleviate pain.

And maybe all you Jesus freaks should look in the mirror. Maybe its not any of your business what someone else does to their own body. Maybe you should think about drugs the next time you eat a big mac, which has dozens of chemicals added to it to make it addictive and activate receptors in your brain to make you enjoy the taste. Maybe you guys are hypocrites for being vehemently opposed to marijuana but pro-war.

Smoking weed is not a sin.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 3960495

Is smoking weed a sin? Although the Bible does not address marijuana directly, it does discuss other mind-altering drugs. Specifically, the Bible addresses the use of drugs in the book of Galatians:

Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. (Galatians 5:19-21)

So, where are the drugs mentioned in this verse? Actually, the word translated "sorcery" is the Greek word pharmakeia,4 from which we get the English word "pharmacy." The primary meaning is "the use or the administering of drugs" (usually associated with sorcery or idolatry). Since this verse comes from a list of things that, if practiced, would preclude one from heaven, this should be a reasonably strong suggestion that the Christian should not practice drug use. In addition, the book of Revelation lists drug use as one of the things for which the unrepentant will suffer the wrath of God.

Most of the anti-marijuana crowd is too uninformed about the subject matter to form an educated opinion about it. They don't understand the criminal justice system and the economic cost of marijuana's status of being illegal. The cost of enforcement, the cost of adjudication, incarceration, probation, etc. The socioeconomic cost of individuals having their records tarnished and lost wages / employment from ingesting a substance that is much safer than alcohol. They'd rather pay $25,000 a year of taxpayers' money to lock up a drug user for a probation violation than spend $5,000 to give that same individual addiction counseling / treatment to address the 'issue' in an effective matter. How many billions of dollars in taxable sales are being lost due to marijuana sales being forced to occur on the black market / behind the scenes? Meanwhile your precious Johnny is buying marijuana from his friend in middle school because there's no business owner behind a counter asking him for his I.D. 30+ years of the war on drugs and particularly marijuana and what has changed since that time? Nothing. Drug use remains steady. How many more billions and billions of dollars shall we waste when it has already become abundantly clear that our model of drug enforcement is flawed and destined for nothing but never-ending failure?

Do you have children ac?
Do you allow them to play video games? Watch tv? Eat at fast food restaurants? Force Jesus on them?
If you would like to discuss all the harmful things a society does to children start there.

You get offended why? Is it because I tell you that what you're doing is wrong? Do you get adjitated because I rock your cozy little world where you think you're actions have no consequences?

Is there a little voice in the back of your mind that agrees with me that you should not be doing drugs?

I'm just giving my point of view on the subject.

If those poor little kids want to grow some weed, and make some money, they are by all means welcome to do so. Unless there is some African Dictator hell bent on controlling all aspects of society..... Sound Familiar?

Jesus smoked weed too, so go get educated.

To answer your question, no - smoking weed is still not a sin.

You are really stretching things with your "translation" of the bible.

Is the consumption of wine at our communions a sin?

I'm no atheist, but this thought smacks me in the face every time someone blindly calls on Jesus rather then take responsibility to their lives.

Why give your power to the thought of 'someone,' when you could invest the time and energy on yourself?

Trust, love and WANT yourself at the highest frequency you can attain in this life-time.

It's just very telling that our society wants to get high more than they care about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Or, to spend the money they would be using to buy a dime bag to donate to a poor child in a third world country who has nothing.

Google "compassion international" then tell me how much you want to get high.
