Every now and again, security or loss prevention guys get it into their heads that they are cops. Even cops have to have a warrant signed by a judge.

This is blatant breaking and entering and the person who authorized it could probably also be charged with conspiracy to commit larceny or grand larceny if the items stolen were over $500 value.

If anyone actually read the article they would notice the Walmart people were with the police. I'm guessing the police got the warrant the the Walmart folks were there to identify their product.

If any company can use private security to do a search and seizure, they all would have by now.

If you get caught stealing even a pack of gum from Walmart, they will come after you like a pitbull with their legal team based in FL. These "collections" lawyers work for several large companies. They will get their money, like it or not, and the price will keep going up if you don't pay fast. My daughter worked there, and said that the only way they can accuse you of stealing or stop you, is if they have their security guy (in plainclothes) standing right there watching you take the stuff. Otherwise, their policy is to just let the person go on out the door. No idea if this is totally true, but she said that people get away with a lot there. I guess that's why the penalties are so high for those who get caught in the store.

Not a smart thing to do, but I bet the house they raided had many stolen items in it. They just didn't go about it correctly. This person must have stolen quite a bit of goods.
