It's a Christmas wreath, and, indeed, the only way to find out where "chemtrails" come from is to send a plane up and collect a direct sample.

Even if you were allowed to tail one of them:
1. Doubtful if you could get MSM to publish your results.
2. Cannot prove who owns the plane and is funding the operation.
