Interested observer of all things interesting! I would think that a land slide in Hawaii would affect the North American west coast or the Asian east coast.. depending on where the slide occured. Never thought about a slide in Hawaii, affecting Hawaii in any way other than the loss of mass. Very interesting. |

This is exactly why birds don't feel the need to fly to the moon but once in 100,000 years when the conditions are right. |

But scientists have new evidence of these monster waves, called megatsunamis, doing just that. Unlike tsunamis from earthquakes, the Hawaiian tsunamis strike when the island chain's massive volcanoes collapse in humongous landslides. This happens about every 100,000 years, and is linked to climate change, said Gary McMurtry, a professor at the University of Hawaii in Honolulu. The giant landslides seem to happen during periods of rising sea levels, when the climate is also warmer and wetter, Hildenbrand told OurAmazingPlanet. Researchers speculate that the change from lower sea level to higher may destabilize a volcanic island's flanks, and heavier rains could soak its steep slopes, helping trigger landslides. Scientists in Hawaii have discovered an inventive new source of government revenue by pillaging taxpayers yet once again. :wealthspread: Last Edited by Useless Cookie Eater on 12/06/2012 06:45 PM |

Quoting: Carshy McCarsh In fact, I'm willing to bet they are a threat to everywhere except Denver and Tibet. ^^THIS^^ "The Physical World is a mystery, wrapped in an enigma, coated in a conundrum, basted with a paradox and garnished with uncertainty" |
