Blindness does not mean helpless. Teaching blind kids to not be 'helpless' is probably one of the first things the parent do. Blind people can't go through life feeling like a victim playing the 'pity me' role. I know a blind old woman who will say whatever it takes so that no one takes advantage of her. She learned coping skills since she was a child - some even bad. No one can 'pull the wool over her eyes.' She's very clever and smart. She's given me 'hell' when I had to break some bad news to her regarding her rent increase. The little boy gave the teacher a hard time and the teacher acted the best way possible, despite how inappropriate it was. They were both right and wrong.
