economy on the brink? Need advice
I apologize for posting here, since we are all anxiously awaiting 12-21-12 and all but I have a question and I don't know where else to turn. I await all responses eagerly.

when I got out of high school I went into the army. After 4 years I got out and went to college. I went to a small local college and got my degree in mechanical engineering.. Straight out of college I got a job at Ford. I worked there for several years but was quite bored so I left and went into another industry. For the following 14 years I was the sole engineer at a small company. But the company sold and the new owners bankrupted it. So I went back to a large (global) company. My supervisor for the past 5 years is not an engineer. He has a science degree. I am the sole design engineer at the company and design everything we make. In addition I code all of our cnc machines to keep the manufacturing centers working.. I don't consider myself heavily work loaded, which is why I am torn about my situation.

we recently have been told that the company is restructuring and is reviewing pay scales. So today I was told that I have maxed out on my pay scale and will not receive any more raises aside from an occasional cost of living allowance.. I have not received a raise in 4 years.

I make roughly $60,000 a year and am 42 but am quite unchallenged at work.

what are your opinions on this?

suck it up and count my blessings or is this unfair?

I'm one of the people that believe we're going to have a financial reset, return to common law, release of new/hidden technology and a transition into much better times (either that or the NWO will kick in!)

Yes, your situation is a bit unfair, but not too bad in the bigger scheme of things.

I would leave things as they are for a while longer, then look for better work if nothing much changes. Keep working where you are until a firm acceptance elsewhere is found.

the thought has crossed my mind. Until the bombshell today, I would never consider it, but finding out that you have no reason to work harder because there will be no reward, leaves me with a sour taste in my mouth..

You are long overdue for taking your skills and running your OWN business doing the same thing.
Quietly go about creating your own company. Don't tell them until you are ready to leave.

At that point...offer to BUY THEM OUT (if you can get a loan) and run the company with THEM as your employees.

You are being used my friend...and not reaping the rewards of your intelligence and skills.

Dude sounds like you've got your shit together. Your an engineer, with business skills, you should be making more $,you have to learn to market yourself. Use job search engines like indeed.com to see whats out there in the job market. Be bold, talk to people, people who are doing things you would like to do. In fields that interest you, that spark your imagination. Good luck and God Bless.

thanks for the great advice. I've been limiting myself job-wise because my wifes parents are old and both sick. She refuses to move from the area while they're still alive. My job is only 2 miles from my house so it's easy for me to use that as an 'excuse' to stay. But they let their feelings show today. If you run a company without some heart and common sense you deserve to fail. Telling all of your employees that they may never receive a raise again is ridiculous and discounts those who give more. Even though I'm salaried I always work overtime and am always the first one in in the morning.. Maybe it's time to part ways.

I know an architect who lost his job. he's now making $8,000 a year part time. Be careful about job changes. I'd stay put....

Re: economy on the brink? Need advice
I'm bored as shit and I own my own company! Bottom line is the economy sucks and has taken the fun out of most jobs. I have seen many do the hey go on your own in my field and they all failed because at the end of the day once you are the boss you put in the real hours! No one sees the overhead, just the profit. I have contemplated working for someone else pretty much every year in business as the stress can really be overwhelming. My solution was to scale down and eliminate nearly all business debt. Now i sit back and enjoy the ride while others try to expand and sink like the titanic! It's really like having inside info if you ask me as most people think things are fine or getting better. Guess what they are getting worse! peace

Its all falling apart anyway... You'll look back on this time with a sense of loss. When the hyperinflationary cycle begins, all hell will break loose. Rioting in the streets, mass arrests... Nothing will be the same. No financial reset, just chaos and war. They'll kill off the majority of the population... it will be easier than you think. One billion is easier to control and feed than seven. The old, weak and chronically ill will be the first to go. They'll release two very potent viruses into the populous which will spread like nothing we've never seen before. Mass starvation and disease will take care of the rest.
