Weird object in the sky in Las Vegas area - please help identify
On Thursday, December 06, 2012 my husband and I were on our way home from work and stopped in the Whitney Ranch area to pick up my niece. While we were waiting (at around 5:30 pm) my husband noticed something strange in the night sky almost directly above us. The object had been travelling rather fast from South to North when it came to a stop and hovered. This was the Southeast area of the Las Vegas valley. This area happens to lie directly in the flight path to McCarran airport so it’s not unusual to see aircraft. The object appeared to be a round sphere, glowing with pulsating red light. By the way it stopped and hovered we first thought it might be a helicopter at high altitude but it didn’t have the normal lights you’d expect to see on any known aircraft. It simply pulsated a glowing red light. At one point, the pulse was rather large and shortly after that there seemed to be a white halo above it for a brief moment. Immediately following this the object seemed to fly straight up very quickly. The light seemed to become more and more distant and turned a dim white color and we assumed it was heading straight up to a much higher altitude. This assumption proved incorrect however as we began driving (watching it through the sunroof) my fist impression was that it was taking off at a high speed. Then I realized it only seemed to be moving because we were moving. As we made turns through the neighborhood this continued which confirmed that it could not possibly be at the high altitude we thought it had climbed to. The light had become very faint and it was hardly discernible amid the stars, but as we traveled the stars seemed to stay stationary while this object was obviously very close to us in relation. It was higher than the incoming airplanes but I cannot judge the altitude. I would greatly appreciate everyone's input. I took photos with my Blackberry (which really stinks as a camera) and uploaded the full files here: [link to weirdobject.shutterfly.com] These photos can be downloaded from this site, so please examine them carefully!

Thank you GLP!!

If somebody could pin this, with the exposure somebody may be able to identify the object. I would be grateful!

Sorry the photos just don't come out unless you use a longer exposure time.

Download the first photo and blow it up. I don't know how to post that here but there are four distinctly white lights around the outer circle. Weird.

glad to see you can use the long exposure setting on your camera. Although your claims are shit.

Whitney Ranch is near Sunset Station right? I was at work, and as a smoker I was probably out between 5 and 6.

But I didn't see anything, sorry.

Maybe it was something from Nellis?

Yes, very close to Sunset Station. It didn't make any noise that I could tell (but there was a lot of background noise). If you weren't happening to look straight up when we did you wouldn't have picked it out as anything but a star. After the red glow dimmed and it became more white it looked just like a star until we began to move and because we compared it to the few stars around, it appeared to be moving in our opposite direction while the real stars were stationary.

Hey OP,

I too have seen some strange things here... Even during the day.

It could have been a drone. Check FOX5, they reported one crashed
Yesterday north of Vegas. There also was an article about the increase
In air traffic through the 12th. Nellis is doing training. Just FYI.

I once saw something similar while waiting to turn onto the 215 at Far Hills. I was turning north and it was to the south, above the mountains.

I thought I saw that object from afar as I was way up in Summerlin but. I was driving home facing that way. I thoughy it was a helicopter because of the lights, but what caught my eye at first was how qickly it was moving in different angles.

I did here about the drone going down from a so-called "testing". Maybe this drone was tracking this object during the morning and it was "taken out.

There is Area 51 out here so they do have some high tech technology around here.

Probably a scientific device from Nellis or Area 51, or you're full of GLP shit, which gets my vote.

Yep, it's a lens flare...coming off of a UFO....or a space craft using gravity field propulsion.

I watched one similar last winter while walking my dog. It was hovering over the Red Rock canyon area and shot up so quickly it left a streak just like the after image we see when someone moves a sparkler quickly on the fourth of july.

These are common in the San Fernando Valley of SoCal.

You can see them in broad daylight.

Metallic orbs streaking across the sky and sometimes just hovering, plain as day.

I once pointed out one of these red ones to a friend from my backyard. He told me it was probably a balloon. I asked him to explain how a balloon travels on a straight trajectory. He couldn't believe that it was some type of UFO, man-made or other.

Do a search on San Fernando Valley orbs and see what comes up.
