For however long, some months now, I can't get the word "Stop" out of my head when I hear music in my head. I was advised to say the word when I had running thoughts, which was stupid advice -- but now it's become somewhat obsessive. Life has been strained and difficult in the last months, but made all the worse by the fact that I can't seem to get this word out of my head -- and that I hear it randomly when I'd rather just pace myself to a song or hum or sing or whatever. I've never been on medication and don't want to be, but I'm pretty clueless as to how someone evades this problem. It's hard to forget about because it keeps popping up and seems unavoidable. So I can go the route of Big Pharma or try tolerating it..., but not so sure how to. It seems automatic and distressing. javascript:doSmilie(':1dunno1:');

It will help you concentrate better and perhaps help you get rid of your issue but you should really see a doctor about that if the symptoms persist !

Do you guys think I just have to drop that compulsion with time, effort and patience -- or am I kidding myself here? I think it's persisted so long because it's exacerbated by stress, which there has been a lot of -- but like I said, it's more difficult with this... I have been trying to use willpower. There are days where I commit myself to being productive and patient. But then I seem to crash. I don't get as much gratification out of performing tasks and accomplishing things like I used to. In other words, I hold myself up and then it catches up with me. I started seeing a psychologist this week, so we'll see what she has to say. In the meantime, it's just difficult. I want to overcome this and be done with it.

Sounds like a compulsive/obsessive disorder maybe, that a doctor can help you with. you can get help and you don't have to live with it annoying you. Happens to a lot of people.

I don't want to continue bitching and complaining about how it's been hard to just simply do what you guys are saying -- but it just hasn't happened, as much as I want it to. Thought replacing makes perfect sense for me, we do it all the time. But I still keep reverting back to this negative thought... I can't seem to hold the right opposite thought/word in my head, so I go on ruminating about this: "Fuck, how do I not do that?" Or "Ok, get over it" -- but yet here I am. Certainly factors in my life that have added to this problem which need correcting, but I just want some type of relief. Or to at least know a direction that provides one without use of drugs. &(&(!!!

I've tried, and I just get caught up arguing in my head trying to remember that word or over-power the other word with it. It's too much rumination, but I think this might still be key. Thought replacement does work.
