FACT CHECK: Jesse Ventura's "Conspiracy Theory" episode "Ozarks" is highly misleading.
Don't get me wrong, I love Jesse Ventura, but his Season 3 "Conspiracy Theory" episode titled "Ozarks" is so full of mischaracterizations and hooey I can't help but conclude it must have been intentional:

1) The episode spends an inordinate amount of time speculating over Pensmore Castle, or Overwatch Manor, located outside of Branson, Missouri. It is a 72,000 sq ft home being built by billionaire, defense contractor and former spook Steven Huff [link to www.pensmore.com]

While it is built like a fortress and heavily fortified, it's no secret; it's been heavily covered by the MSM. The show gives the impression they are reporting on it for the first time and that it is somehow cloaked in secrecy, yet they show close-up archive footage of it throughout the episode shot from various MSM interviews with Huff (for something so supposedly secret, I kept thinking, "Where did they get all this close up footage?").

Jesse speculates it must be connected to all of the underground bases nearby, implies it has been built with government money and will act as a "command center" when the "Illuminati" starts "WWIII." (He also acts shocked that it is zoned as a "single family home", even though in rural areas, big mansions are built just like this one so owners can avoid city codes).

None of this is backed by a shred of reality. I agree the mansion is certainly an anomaly and worth looking into, it may well be that Huff is prepping because he knows the shit is about to hit the fan, but the wild speculation from Jesse and his team serves only to distort and confuse, rather than inform.

2) Sean Stone (who acts like a complete nitwit during the episode) later visits with the "white rabbit" (he requests to have his face blurred out), a local with knowledge of Ozark caves, presumably connected to this rather interesting web site about old buildings and historical relics in the area: [link to www.undergroundozarks.com]

The "rabbit" takes him to a few nearby caves, and while in them, Sean says he "hears" something and you can hear some people talking in the background. I got the feeling they added this audio to the soundtrack. Sean acts all spooked and ridiculous and runs out of the cave (instead of investigating it), but never brings it up to Jesse and the team and it's never mentioned again. To me it looked staged, and gave new meaning to TruTV's admonition that "Conspiracy Theory" is an "entertainment show".

3) The "white rabbit" then takes Jesse and the team to what is implied to be a nearby super-sized underground installation (the episode is based in Ozark, Mo.). They eventually make their way to an impressive facility built into the side of a mountain.

Then they drive right into it! It's huge, a vast underground network of roadways and loading bays. It's very impressive and at first I was pretty shocked and spooked.

They then drive out and Jesse says, "Oh my god, look at the railroad tracks right nearby! And the parking lot full of government vehicles!"

The impression given is that this is located in the Ozarks and it's some kind of secret facility, one of many the government is building there.

Well, it's patently false and a total mischaracterization of the location and type of facility.

What Jesse didn't tell you is that this facility is located SIX HOURS AWAY from Ozark, Missouri -- in Kansas City!

He didn't tell you that this "base" is an old limestone mine converted into a storage facility (there are a few of these in the state of Missouri, including one in Carthage and another in Kansas City). It is public. Anyone can go there. In fact, you can rent space in it. It's run by Hunt Midland and known as "Subtropolis."

They even have a promotional video on their web site:

[link to www.huntmidwest.com]

Check out the end of the episode in this clip showing all of the above:

This season is off-the-rails and Jesse is threatening his own *cough* reputation with crap like this. It's a shame, because some of the episodes in previous seasons were awesome and actually revealed new information (particularly one of the 9/11 episodes, if I recall, and another that TruTV censored).

He went to the large house with the sherrif and was turned away because the owner was not on site.

Then they showed closeup shots of the owner walking around the site and even had shots from the roof of the large house , which supposedly they didn't have access to.

The whole show was BS.

I don't get people like you.

Back in the 70's, when Leonard Nimoy was doing 'In Search Of', it was cornball and the topics were far more tame then what Jesse Ventura is covering. But conspiracy folks considered him a hero for bringing these issues into the mainstream media.

Now, 40 years later, when Jesse Ventura comes along with a similarly rare show in the mainstream media, certain internet warriors take pride in knocking Ventura, that he doesn't go far enough, and every which way.

Well, I got news for ya SuperBowlDave, after Ventura's show is cancelled, 40 years from now, in 2050, I'm sure you will take great delight in criticizing the next time the mainstream media presents such a show. And you know what, you'll be a moran then, just like you are now.

Really... I mean, really?

This guy is presenting information that is false, making false claims, nothing short of outright lies.

You're suggesting a sort of mindless allegiance and adherence to those in the conspiracy field, no matter their credibility.

If a turd is wrapped in conspiracy theory, it's still a turd. But I'm supposed to support it anyway?

While I think Jesse's contributed a great deal of excellent information in prior episodes, something is seriously wrong with this new season.

The only thing they do is obfuscate the real info with their own disinfo and tactical bullshit.

Do you know which state has among the highest literacy rates in the country? It's Minnesota.

Do you which state has among the highest number of college graduates? It's Minnesota.

Do you know which state consistently has the highest voter participation in elections of any state in the country? It's Minnesota.

The most informed and active participation in our democracy of any state in our nation, do you know who they elect as their representatives? Jesse Ventura, and Al Franken by the way.

Not only that, but Jesse Ventura became the Governor with the highest approval rating of any Governor in Minnesota history.

You know that lame Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty, that the Republicans somehow foisted into the illusion of a leadership position during the Republican Presidential primaries. Governor T-Paw could only dream of the approval levels that Jesse Ventura had as Governor.

The rest of America can have their lame ass politicians. All you have to do is look at the 'fiscal cliff' debate to see the type of clowns the rest of America is electing. No way, no how in Minnesota.

The most informed, active electorate in the entire country elected Jesse Ventura, and they loved it. Also it should be noted that consistently the second highest voter participation in the country is in the state of Maine, and they have a penchant for independents too, as in former Governor and current Senator Angus King.

This is the wave of the future folks, your lame-brained 'fiscal cliff' politicians you see on the news are going down, in favor of the citizen politician.

I watched a little of the "Skinwalker" episode this season, but turned it off. I'll probably finish it later, but it started off so bad I couldn't stomach it. I'm pretty familiar with Bigelow and the case itself and this thing reeked of bad form from the outset.

Here's a couple of guys trying to create a "skinwalker" "reality show" -- (he also appears in the Conspiracy Theory episode). I know this guy from another forum. He's personally visited the ranch a bunch of times and put his reports up over the years and they were always pretty interesting. This little promo clip they put together isn't bad and they actually caught some interesting stuff on video:

Right, I'm not saying Jesse is intentionally trying to put out disinfo -- it's clear his stumbled upon some pretty intense stuff and he got heat over it.

This season is just a big drop off in overall quality. Whether it's incompetence, he's surrounded by people who don't have his best interest in mind, the network is messing with the show and dumbing it down, or he's been threatened to tone it down, who knows.
