I work with a huge electric company and also a nationwide concrete company doing all the big wal marts, menards, ect... Anyways, both companies yesterday unexpectedly told me they'll no longer need my guys because of the uncertainty with taxes and fiscal cliff. They told me I've been their best resource but unfortunately they're going to do with what they have. I'm starting to get real nervous. This next year will be very interesting....

The rate is determined by a monthly poll conducted by the Census Bureau. (Called the "Current Population Survey".)

Most of the current hiring is seasonal temporary holiday jobs and if you want a clearer picture of our economy look at the layoffs, chapter 11 and business closings. Then go over to the Who's Hiring page and red about the seasonal hiring and projected hiring some out to 2015.

Then you have to consider how many of these projected new jobs over the years will be within the United States or offshore. Many companies have had to layoff workers and close plants in order to make their company look more lucrative to investors hence the stock market is not a good indictor of fiscal well being.

Once a person’s unemployment benefits expire, the people are no longer counted in the statistics, which skews the data, and if obama were not increasing, the disability rolls at an alarming rate the picture would be portrayed closer to its grim reality.

My husband just lost his job of 25 years last week, the whole place shut down due to lack of new work for them (electrical contracting business). Nobody is hiring around here with Christmas, winter and the fiscal cliff on the horizon! Those numbers don't really mean a thing until you are one of them, trust me.

Working in transportation field I will tell you this: I see factory equipment being shipped south of border or overseas.....the only things being shipped in is walmart goods and car parts.
