THE ARGUMENT
Anti-gay activists keenly oppose the granting of "special" civil rights protections to gay people similar to those afforded black Americans and other minorities. But if people are born gay — in the same way people have no choice as to whether they are black or white — discrimination against gay men and lesbians would be vastly more difficult to justify. Thus, anti-gay forces insist that sexual orientation is a behavior that can be changed, not an immutable characteristic.

THE FACTS
Modern science cannot state conclusively what causes sexual orientation, but a great many studies suggest that it is the result of biological and environmental forces, not a personal "choice." One of the more recent is a 2008 Swedish study of twins (the world's largest twin study) that appeared in The Archives of Sexual Behavior and concluded that "[h]omosexual behaviour is largely shaped by genetics and random environmental factors." Dr. Qazi Rahman, study co-author and a leading scientist on human sexual orientation, said: "This study puts cold water on any concerns that we are looking for a single 'gay gene' or a single environmental variable which could be used to 'select out' homosexuality — the factors which influence sexual orientation are complex. And we are not simply talking about homosexuality here — heterosexual behaviour is also influenced by a mixture of genetic and environmental factors."

The American Psychological Association (APA) acknowledges that despite much research into the possible genetic, hormonal, social and cultural influences on sexual orientation, no evidence has emerged that would allow scientists to pinpoint the precise causes of sexual orientation. Still, the APA concludes that "most people experience little or no sense of choice about their sexual orientation."

In October 2010, Kansas State University family studies professor Walter Schumm released a study showing that gay parents produced far more gay children than heterosexual parents. He told a reporter that he was "trying to prove [homosexuality is] not 100% genetic." But critics suggested that his data did not prove that, and, in any event, virtually no scientists have suggested that homosexuality is caused only by genes.

The problem will be solved when the gay gene is identified and a prenatal test is developed.

Parents can than make "a choice" to abort the gay fetus.

Another point to consider, apart from the media blitz, the normalization attempts on TV and in movies, is that legally a gay person has more rights than a straight one. They are a member of a protected class, more or less, they get supercitizen rights.

Then explain how there is an increase in gays in the Amish, Indian, and other secluded communities?

A gay person doesn't birth a gay child. Their numbers are growing because they feel the world is more accepting.

Now leave them alone and focus on you. I have a gay relative, her and her partner have 2 kids and that family is happier than 90% of straight households, just saying.

How do you know that? You have numbers? They count gay people?

I seriously doubt that. People are simply coming out of closet in a more open environment. Truly, I don't think we've even seen the real numbers of gay people out there.

Those that are on the down low, married, living in the closet due to social issues will hopefully come to an end. It's tragic when a married person comes out the closet. It damages the family.

If there were no closets, we wouldn't have this conundrum. Again, I'm absolutely certain, sexuality is not a black and white issue for many. There is a sexuality scale I'm sure.

So your admitting to gays are being born the way they are. Good for you. Now go tell your parents. Your mother will say she already knew.

The numbers are getting bigger because they now more eagerly get out of the closet. You never know who is gay around you, not all of the gay men have woman like behavior. Women haters are probably gays, at least taht's what I think.

What are you afraid of? Do you think that the evil gay agenda is going to turn you or your loved ones into homosexuals? That seems like a very legitimate and non idiotic fear.

The more we point out are differences the less we see how similar we all are. We are all brothers on this earth. Why waste time fighting amongst ourselves over something so trivial as sexual orientation? Go talk to some gay people, they are regular folks just like you and I. They have no agenda, they just want the same rights we all share.

I know its silly to try to change the mind of a bigot, but seeing this much unwarranted hate being directed at a community which several people I love belong to just breaks my heart.

It's his opinion and I support it too. He doesn't have to identify the reason. There is a reason only man and women together can produce children.

And why is it that men and women NEED to reproduce? The world is overpopulated as it is.

It is because they tend to gravitate to authoritarian professions such as teachers, coaches, Scout leaders, and religious figures who have constant contact with young and impressionable boys and girls. They also seem to be over-represented in State and Federal jobs, which might explain all of the legislation which is favorable to their demographic as well as the pro-gay curriculum which is now taught in our public schools.
