Strange fish found on a beach, identification needed

looks like a puffer fish

I emailed the images to my brother, he fishes a LOT, I'll let you know if he can help.

Looks like some variant of "jack fish" with the eyes
ate out and the mouth area chewed or rotted off.

Its a puffer.

It's definitely a puffer fish. There are many different types. Kind of hard to ID after it's been being chewed on for a while.

No luck identifying it though. I'm only any good with freshwater fish.

From the tread pattern on the bottom I would say it's a NIKE RUNNING FISH...

As a sidenote, my brother (the fisherman) said the fish could be poisonous. Don't eat it.

OP, please say why you think it is not a puffer fish. My take is that it is a puffer fish...but it is a ROTTEN puffer fish. Look at the scales. Is that fish missing an eye? It looks like a fish that washed up on the shore many days ago...and has deteriorated.
