ok..here's my business advice answer to your question....


first, an employer should take into account the value of the employee to the organization and compare that to the value of the customer lost.

levels don't mean shit.

also, extenuating factors might apply. for instance, could the employee just be having a bad day? is the employee having personal problems?

perhaps the employee is young and doesn't understand that personal pride doesn't win business. if so, perhaps a bit of one on one counselling might help.

talk to the employee to find out.

the bottom line is this....if your organization values money more than employees you're cutting off your nose to spite your face. your employees are what bring you customers. without them, you wouldn't have any. if your employees see you whack one of their own in order to save a customer, they will not respect you. in time, they will feel you are managing with fear and slowly they will begin to detest you. once a tipping point is reached and the level of antagonism of your employees toward you and/or the company is reached, the company will self destruct.

be cautious. when you hire an employee there is a responsibility the company takes toward the individual - no matter what the 'law' may say about right to work etc.

It could also be that what is being manufactured is a total pile of shit product too.

That is possible. I am a teenager after all, as far as you know.
The long and short of this is you will have to come to your own conclusions as you talk with the person involved.
