Quoting: 508527 if you're a young college punk reading this, learn from my mistake. Exactly the same mistake here. Business management degree is fine if all you want to do is manage in retail. Otherwise, think again or supplement with another degree. Also...I regret that first cigarette. "May your electricity go out a second before the shit hits the fan." -Conspiracy Theorist's Blessing |

Bentleysports (OP) User ID: 30919153 United States 12/27/2012 01:50 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | One mistake? Choosing to go to my permanent duty station in Europe in 1990 rather than staying with 2nd Armored Training Brigade like the LTC asked me to after training was over. I was pretty high speed then, and the light colonel took a liking to me. He wanted me to stay on with the unit after OSUT was over. Quoting: TheBiss This one statement, "Sir, thank you for the opportunity, but I would prefer to go to Germany." changed the whole course of my life. If I had stayed at Ft Knox, there is a possibility I would have stayed in and be retired 3 years ago. If I had stayed I would not have gone to Desert Storm. If I had stayed I would not have been subjected to serin nerve gas fallout, pyrostigmine bromide, and lungsful of burning hydrocarbons. I would not have gotten shot at. I would not have PTSD. I would not be a killer. When I look back at my life, that day in the colonel's office of 2/13 Armor, as an 18 year old Army private, is the day I can safely pinpoint as affecting the rest of my life. I made a similar choice in the military. Worked for the CINC of Korea(Gen Gary Luck) and was then given the option to work for the Commander of 7th Special Forces Group as they were friends. Chose not to do it and the rest as they say is history. |

I try to remember them all. if I remember the mistakes I will remember the trouble that came from them. Never forget your history or you are bound to repeat it. I don't have to tell the mistakes I have made, just knowing that I remember them, is enough for you to know. |

Your Dad would not want you to. Of course you were upset. I am a heavy smoker and know it stresses my children. You - like them - are not to blame in any way. He would have been short with you if you had had a drug problem that you could have dies from - and then did. You having nothing to feel guilty about. Neither does he. We all need to use whatever helps us get through life. No one lives forever - smoke or not. Go a bit easier on yourself. Your Dad would have been the same to you if reversed. But you know that already. I bet he was proud of you! I sure would be if you were mine. |
