How did some of you get so freakin' smart?

Well there's a lot smarter people than myself, but at 37 I've read over 3500 nonfiction books. That's not including daily Internet and periodicals.

I think the most important thing people should do is shut off the television and spend a period of time each day in deep contemplation.

GLP proves to me every day that there are more smart people out there than I dared hope. And that makes me happy.

Its called paying attention in school as well as learning how to hustle and bang like the con artists that were busy skipping school..

Private school education

No, no. Education is what you are left with after you have forgotten all the lies you were told in school.

^^^THIS^^^ For me as well but I don't necessarily think that it's the ultimate answer. I believe that there are many well informed people here that can sift through the BS and put the pieces together. It's more about having common sense and being able to filter out what doesn't make sense.

I was always looking around me and taking note of the world around me, from an early age. That habit has carried over into my latter years, and coupled with my experiences, travels, interaction with people, and the mountains of research into just about everything, I could say that I know a thing or two now.
But a head full of 'knowledge' never beats wisdom and experience, or keen discernment. There is a lot of propaganda and misinformation in this world. Knowing how to filter through it all is the trick.

There are a surprising number of "smart" (read high IQ) people on here. It's surprising however because people on here are so retarded.

The smart people are not in this room, they have high paying jobs, live well and do not spend all their free time on an Internet dungeon full of insane maniacs and bitter right wing racists.

I go to school a lot. Of course that just makes me well edumacated, not necessarily smart :)
