N.Korea filling up 2 fuel tanks at missile launch site
DECEMBER 08, 2012 00:12
North Korea is filling up two fuel tanks at its missile launch site in Tongchang-ri in Cholsan County, North Pyongan Province, where it erected a long-range rocket, a South Korean military source said Friday, adding that Pyongyang says liftoff will come as early as Monday.

The source said Seoul has spotted increased activity of personnel and vehicles near the fuel storage area of the launch site. As soon as the North completes filling the storage tanks with fuel, he said, it is expected to supply the rocket with fuel.

Fuel pipes that supply liquid fuel to the rocket are built in underground facilities, so detecting fuel injection with satellite imagery is difficult.

Experts say Pyongyang will likely set a launch date depending on weather conditions as soon as the fue

Okinawa on full missile alert / SDF prepares to intercept falling debris with Aegis, PAC-3

NAHA--Tensions ran high in Okinawa Prefecture on Friday as the Self-Defense Forces, on orders from Defense Minister Satoshi Morimoto, made preparations to intercept a North Korean long-range ballistic missile if necessary.

The alert was reminiscent of the run-up to a failed missile launch in April that Pyongyang claimed was intended to put a satellite into orbit.

A local government in the prefecture held an emergency meeting as the SDF went on full alert, deploying three Aegis-equipped destroyers as well as surface-to-air Patriot Advanced Capability-3 (PAC-3) missiles to prepare for the possible fall of missile debris during the announced launch period from Dec. 10-22.

The Ishigaki municipal government convened an emergency meeting at the crisis-management headquarters Friday morning.

Mayor Yoshitaka Nakayama instructed anxious-looking officials to "take all possible measures to protect the safety of people in the city."

The security measures may affect fisheries in

Snow may have hit NKorea rocket launch

SEOUL: New satellite images indicate that snow may have slowed North Korea’s rocket launch preparations, but that Pyongyang could still be ready for liftoff starting on Monday.

South Korean media reports this week quoted unnamed officials in Seoul as saying North Korea had mounted all three stages of the Unha rocket on the launch pad by Wednesday. But snow may have prevented Pyongyang from finishing its work by then, according to GeoEye satellite images from Tuesday that were scrutinised by analysts for the websites 38 North and North Korea Tech and shared Friday with the AP. The analysis and images provide an unusually detailed public look at North Korea’s cloaked preparations for a launch that the United Nations, Washington, Seoul and others say is a cover for a test of technology for a missile that could be used to target the United States.

The launch preparations have been magnified as an issue because of their timing: Both Japan and South Korea hold elections this month, an

Japan authorises North Korean missile shoot-down
December 08, 2012

TOKYO: Japan on Friday issued the order to shoot down a North Korean rocket if it threatens the nation’s territory, the top government official said.

Tokyo has readied surface-to-air missiles in and around Tokyo, as well as in Okinawa, and is putting its armed forces on standby ahead of Pyongyang’s planned missile launch.

It is also deploying Aegis warships in neighbouring waters
.

Defence Minister Satoshi Morimoto has told forces to destroy the projectile or any parts that look set to fall on Japanese territory, Chief Cabinet Secretary Osamu Fujimura told reporters.

The communist North announced last week a Dec.10 to 22 window, its second long-range rocket launch this year after a much-hyped but botc

Gov't Orders Ships to Reroute on NK's Rocket Path
[2012-12-07, 17:45:45]

The government has ordered vessels to reroute their courses in the Yellow Sea to avoid any possible collisions with falling debris from a long-range rocket that North Korea plans to launch.

The Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs said on Friday that it has issued the order based on the North’s launch schedule, which was notified to the International Maritime Organization and the International Civil Aviation Organization.

According to North Korea’s notice, Pyongyang plans to la

It tends to take a few days for them to complete the fueling. After that it's a matter of maybe 48 hours before they launch. I doubt anything major will happen as a result of this though.

Iran to observe North Korea missile test
Iranian scientists and military officers will attend North Korea's test launch of a long-range ballistic missile expected this month.

Dec. 7, 2012 at 12:23 PM

BEIRUT, Lebanon, Dec. 7 (UPI) -- Iranian scientists and military officers will attend North Korea's test launch of a long-range ballistic missile expected this month, underlining Tehran's close and long-standing links to Pyongyang on missile development.

Western diplomatic sources say an engineering team from the Shahid Hemmat Industrial Group, the Iranian organization that developed the Shehab-3 ballistic missile which constitutes the backbone of the Islamic Republic's strategic missile force, will be on hand for the North Korean test scheduled for sometime Dec. 10-22.

The Shehab-3 is based on North Korea's Nodong missile, while more advanced and longer-range ballistic weapons, identified as the Shehab-5 and Shehab-6, are understood to be modeled on Pyongyang's Taepodong series.

Shahid Hemmat Industrial Group, known to Western missile experts as the "SHIG team," is part of Iran's Aerospace Industries Organization, which is controlled by the elite Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps as part of its Iran missile and nuclear programs mandate.

For more than a decade, Iran and N

The coldest weather of this winter will hit Korea this weekend, with the morning low in Seoul to plunge to minus 11 degrees Celsius Saturday and minus 13 degrees Sunday, the coldest day this winter, due to high continental atmospheric pressure spreading from the north, the Korea Meteorological Administration said Friday.
The entire Korean Peninsula will be in the grip of freezing winter weather, with temperatures to plummet to minus 15 degrees in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province; minus 17 in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province; minus 13 in Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province; and minus 3 in Busan.
