Couple of thoughts:

How will you raise crops in an urban environment? It's nothing personal about living in one versus a rural area, just cold hard logic about the carrying capacity of a city trying to manage that many people with water alone....

It's not about you versus us.

New York has some good regions. It's not that there aren't places to go to, it's that the Horde will be close and nipping at your heels. Personally, I think I'll be in better shape in my state versus yours.

When you start to look at all of the facts about what is needed to grow your own food, then you look at length of growing season, rainfall, plant diseases in your area, quality of soil, etc. Without a massive dieoff, it's highly unlikely to survive by agrarian means in a large city. It's just common sense.

Most people aren't thinking that far down the line. They haven't imagined how they'll get adequate fertilizer to replentish the soil. That'll take a lot of people, or livestock, or both. That takes plenty of rain, for wells will probably not be adequate, and cisterns to be created. It'll take new agricultural methods proposed by the permies like Hugelkulture to use far less rain if there's continuing drought.

Think a little outside of the box.

For the folks especially in the Northeast, I'd read James Howard Kunster's World Made By Hand. It's location is the Hudson Valley. One of the best apocalyptic books dealing with the aftermath of loss of utilities, supply chains, and followed by disease....then how communities cope or become very dysfunctional. It takes place at least a decade after an event, so people are establishing agriculture or dying.

One Second After by Fortschen is grimmer, but it's immediately following an event.
