Re: What is the Worst State(s) to be in When TSHTF?
Its going to be bad anywhere in this country during a SHTF scenario. Why? Because of the mentality that people have. I lived in Japan for a few years before and after I woke up and I never worried about people fighting to the death over food and water. It just wont happen there. They will sit down and die without a thought of hurting another person to take care of themselves. Obviously there will always be a few bad apples but my guess is 99% will go peacefully.

Over here? Oh geez. Metropolitan cities and the outlying areas will be the worst places in the world. Pray you live on a coast and a tidal wave takes you out quickly. But regardless, don't give in to the kind of selfish thought processes. Prepare your mind now to act as unselfishly as possible and be a good example in the worst of times. Help out women and children and give everything you have to others. You can believe that there is a reward waiting for you if you do.

Nobody here thinks this is a test? The ultimate test?

LOL...

Help out children... OK. No problem.'

Help out women? Ha ha ha!! You've GOT to be kidding.

I've seen ENOUGH of their "gratitude" from all the help they've been given in the past. One endless example after another. Do you actually think they would do the same for you? They couldn't give a RAT'S ASS about you. You can go down with the Titanic, as far as they are concerned.

Even if I had a bunker FULL of food and supplies, I still wouldn't give a woman a box of Cracker Jacks.

Actually, I'm looking FORWARD to their wake up call.

On a similar note, it's also a myth that you can just go up to the mountains and hunt & fish and live off the land and make the rest of your life into one big fun camping trip....

Not kidding. I agree with you in the fact that all of us need a wake up call at some point. We know women are more easily tricked or brainwashed and should be treated with more care. I try not to blame anyone because I was brainwashed before too. Maybe direct your anger to the evil that causes any of us to act the way we do instead of unleashing on the end product. Go to the source. Also put yourself in their shoes, think how bad it's going to be for the ones who parade around their bodies when lawlessness hits. That kind of helpless feeling will be torture. I don't expect anyone, men or women to help me when everyone shows their true colors.

Re: What is the Worst State(s) to be in When TSHTF?
Depends on HOW the SHTF.
If its an asteroid striking the pacific ocean
or the atlantic ocean, some states would be good
and some REAL bad.
If its an asteroid striking in Omaha, NB or
yellowstone volcano exploding, some would be
good and some would be bad.
If its a full nuclear exchange between the USA
and Russia and China, Tierra del Fuego would be
great.

What is with all of these tards who think that a gigantic tsunami is "imminent"? And how far inland do they think that an average Tsunami travels? lol...

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 27815245

Well, like I was just telling the OP... I live in an area in the PNW (on the coast), and we get earthquakes off the coast here all the time. But in 18 years, I have yet to feel an earthquake here, even in the SLIGHTEST possible way.

I've had family that have been around here for many decades, and not a single one of them has ever felt an earthquake, even though they are going on offshore all the time.

Sure, we could get "the big one" that supposedly happens here every 500 years (on average), but I'm not going to avoid the area based on that... lol.

I want to live in an area that is:

1) Full of veterans and like minded people
2) Has highly dependable rainfall
3) Lots of fish and game
4) Lots of edible wild plants
5) Not downwind of ANY nuclear, chemical, or biological targets
6) Not near any military targets
7) Not near any medium or large cities
8) Is cool in the summer

9) Is relatively warm (and survivable) in the winter (no snow)
10) Has fresh unpolluted air, not counting the Fukushima aspect, but EVERYBODY is getting that.

And the coastal PNW fits the bill perfectly. There is a REASON that this is the choice of one hell of a lot of veterans. And even retired CIA!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 29307010

PNW is due, overdue even for a massive repeat of the
1700 Cascadia Earthquake that produced a tsunami so bad
it killed people in Japan.
Not a normal earthquake and a frequency of every 3-500 years.

Re: What is the Worst State(s) to be in When TSHTF?
Just because the urban areas are bad in a collapse, doesn't mean they always will be so afterward. Not to be morbid, but going back after a couple of months, a lot of people will have died from dehydration and starvation. A lot of items will be lying around to be re-used by new generations since those items will never again be manufactured.

In history, villages were located near rivers. It was a way that people go to that location versus on horseback or covered wagon. They were located there since it was a water supply, a means of creating trade from travelers passing West, a place for trapping beaver, fishing, getting mussels for eating as well as fabricating buttons, dredging up sand for construction, etc.

Most likely, people will exodus a city in a collapse, but in some cases, I think people will return and try to reclaim it after the numbers dwindle. That will be tough if too much time passes due to crumbling infrastructure. Roads breakdown each year from use, but also crumble under Nature's relentless assault. Watch any number of History channel or similar documentaries and you'll see that as soon as things are not maintained, they crumble due to entropy's effects.

The main issue will always be water availability.

Lots of these river towns will rise again, with tiny populations at first of salvaging crews. They'll most likely be the intinerant merchants traveling town-to-town and bartering there goods, mostly like from a boat traveling a river since fuel will be nonexistent. I doubt people will distill alcohol for fuel as that's a big waste of a lot field corn.

The first boats were flatboats and then followed by keelboats. That's what'll probably use, just like in the history of the pioneers along the St. Lawrence or the Ohio or the Mississippi or Missouri rivers.

Re: What is the Worst State(s) to be in When TSHTF?
The 10 MOST DANGEROUS METRO AREAS FOR VIOLENT CRIME (FORBES.COM):

1. Detroit, MI

2. Memphis, Tn

3. St. Louis, MO

4. Oakland, CA

5. Birmingham, AL

6. Atlanta, GA

7. Baltimore, MD

8. Stockton, CA

9. Cleveland, OH

10 Buffalo, NY

THE TOP 10 MOST DANGEROUS NUCLEAR TARGETS IN OR NEAR A METRO AREA (there are several other primary targets not listed that are not near a major metro)

1. Washington DC /and related bases (major command and control for the President)

2. Colorado Springs, CO (Cheyenne Mtn Control Center, 2 space command/comm bases)

3. Omaha, NE (secondary command and control bases)

4. Seattle, WA (Trident Missile Sub base and numerous Naval Bases)

5. Jacksonville FL/Kings Bay GA (Trident Missile Sub base, Major East Coast Naval Center)

6. San Diego, CA (largest west coast naval complex)

7. Norfolk, VA (major east coast naval complex)

8. Kansas City, MO (Nuclear Manufacturing facility)

9. Cheyenne, WY (Warren AFB, Minute Man and Peacekeeper MX missiles)

10. Great Falls, MT (Malmstrom AFB --Minute Man missiles)

Now for some good news: Here are my current ratings for the TOP 10 MODERATE GROWTH, MEDIUM SIZED METRO AREAS that are relatively safe from strategic threats, or where you have a good chance of mitigating those threats. These are not the best areas, but the areas where most people who need to stay in the job markets will find medium term security:

1. Boise, ID

2. Provo-Orem, UT

3. Beaverton, OR

4. Santa Rosa, CA

5. Greenville, SC

6. Winston-Salem/High Point, NC

7. Austin-San Marcos, TX

8. Grand Rapids, MI

9. Reno, NV

10. Madison, WI

For those of you on a tight budget, here are the TOP 10 MOST ECONOMICAL STATES to live. These ratings take into consideration overall taxes, housing, and cost of living. These ratings also exclude most large metro areas, where costs are much higher than the state average.

1. Arkansas

2. Alabama

3. Louisiana

4. Texas (except Dallas Metroplex)

5. West Virginia

6. Oklahoma

7. South Carolina

8. Mississippi

9. Wisconsin

10. Tennessee

SOME STATES WITH TAX ADVANTAGES: This doesn't tell the whole tax story since all states collect a lot of taxes. However, a person whose financial structure or income structure is different from the average person can take advantage of this by living in a state which doesn't tax his particular form of income or spending patterns. There are more details in my book, "Strategic Relocation"

STATES WITH NO INCOME TAX: Alaska, Florida, Nevada, Tennessee, New Hampshire (but has 5% tax on div/int) , So. Dakota, Texas, Washington, Wyoming.

STATES WITH NO SALES TAX: Alaska, Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire, Oregon,

STATES WITH NO INCOME OR SALES TAXES, BUT HIGH PROPERTY TAXES: Alaska, New Hampshire.

STATES WHO SHARE A BORDER WITH NO SALES TAX/NO INCOME TAX STATE: In these states, you can live in a no income tax state and shop across the border in a no sales tax state: Washington/Oregon Wyoming/Montana So. Dakota/Montana

As you can see, it can be rather enjoyable or frustrating doing this kind of analysis, depending upon where you presently reside. I hope you will enjoy the entire book, which offers many more areas of interest to analyze.

I'm not going to allow a 300-500 year earthquake keep me away from some of the best survivable areas in the country. Especially since I live way down south of where most scientist expect it to hit.

Every single place in the country has it's problems. Earthquakes, hurricanes, tornado's, cold weather, hot weather, etc... etc...

I want to live n an area that has the least of these, and the most positive attributes, like water, food, isolation, etc...

I'm not letting a rare overdue earthquake dissuade me. Especially since I live in a small town, in a single story house. If I was living up north in Seattle, in a multi-floor building, I'd have a different attitude about "the big one".

But you'd never find me living in Seattle ANYWAY.

Actually the time to move was 10 years ago when money was plentiful and land was cheap... those that know got off the coasts and out of the big cites.. and looked for land that could support a garden and livestock.. water rights..on a sandy or loamy high valley with good drainage and not near a major river but over a great aquafer. I understood then, that the earth changes would be profound and IF you are meant to survive that you would have the skills to do just that because your whole life has been about learning those skills. Like you have been driven to garden, develop skills in building, backpack, cook outdoors, hunt, fish, walk alot, clear your mind of the garbage that overwhelms our culture, live a clean drug and alcohol free life AND become Spiritually Connected..so you KNOW in advance when all this is going to happen. So.. be prepared but don't think you will instantly change when the going gets tough.. you react as you have trained..

PNW is due, overdue even for a massive repeat of the
1700 Cascadia Earthquake that produced a tsunami so bad
it killed people in Japan.
Not a normal earthquake and a frequency of every 3-500 years.

You think I don't know all about this? gee whizz... I even mentioned it in my post.

I moved from Seattle inland.. anyone read what Zeta has to say? Might be a good late night snack.. some truth here and some well... speculation..

Yeah, there's a LOT of awesome places if you like horseback riding. And no, I don't live in California, nor will I EVER. One of the reasons that this place stays so small, is because (like you said), the local economy is very tough. But with the way things are headed, it has turned out to be a blessing. If the economy was good here, there would be streams of people moving here.

you tards want to be away from all coastlines and suburban/urban areas. And I now add all large farms also. Sell them immediately. They will soon be a target for a government. If they're not confiscated, they'll be taken over and you'll be forced to do what a government wants.

Best states? Watch the legislation. So far, Wyoming and Texas have taken the lead.
