A Legitimate Question Followed By Rational Discourse (Hopefully)
Aside from the obvious, what is the difference between alcohol and marijuana? I understand how most things are tolerable in moderation, but is there a serious reason (biologically/chemically) that marijuana has always been considered taboo while alcohol has not within our society?

Prohibition in the United States proved that making any substance illegal will not stop it's influx if the demand is high enough, the difference being if it is considered a crime - people will most likely be hurt or killed for it. Of course, one could argue that the lives saved by decriminalizing alcohol are taken again by the abuse of it.

Considering marijuana, one could argue that the risk to human life is much less than that of alcohol - so why hasn't it been legalized already? If the health risks of smoke inhalation are too costly, then the cannabis can be ingested via food or beverage to avoid potential health problems. In this sense, marijuana would be safer than alcohol.

IMHO - I believe that there is a spiritual aspect that comes into play here. The moral decline of our society is such that we are moving farther along the spectrum of decay - where we are becoming more dependent on substances that allow us to escape, or at least dull reality. The reality we are attempting to escape is typically the fear, guilt, and undesirable emotions we have within us - so in a sense, we are attempting to escape our own better judgement.

Thoughts?
"And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away." - Revelation 21:4

Truth needs no validation because it is self-evident and undeniable. Therefore, anything that requires validation to be realized or justified as truth must contain at least some degree of falsehood.

I think its because alcohol has always been in society and MJ has been restricted to shamans or religious folk. Its ingrained in us for it to be taboo.
Recent years have had popular culture with adults drinking and looking cool and stoners doing pot and looking like, well stoners. Not something someone wants on their lifes resume..

If you haven't already do a bit of research on Marijuana and mental illness.

If people have latent scitzophrenia and smoke, it can bring them to the point of being psychotic for life. Heavy long term smokers often get damage to the same brain areas and end up with it too.

Having to deal with a paranoid scitzophrenic is no joke and it is horrible for the sufferer too.

I do think it should be legalised but I think a lot more information should be given to people to make them aware of what can happen.

I had to do my own research on this years ago when very few had put two and two together. Now it is much more widely available. I know they can educate young people on this, as they did a good job with tobacco. None of my children smoked cigerettes due in part, to education at school.

If you have a susceptibility toward scitzophrenic, pot can and probably will, be deadly for you and your family. Years and years of misery for everyone - not only the smoker. I would much rather deal with an alcoholic than a paraniod scitzo.
