China's biggest construction firms will spend £2.2bn to flatten 700 mountains levelling the area Lanzhou, allowing developers to build a new metropolis

The project will be China's fifth "state-level development zone" and the first in the country's rapidly developing interior. Others: Shanghai's Pudong and Tianjin's Binhai, home to an unfinished, 120-building replica of Manhattan.

and

Liu Fuyuan, former high-level official at the country's National Development and Reform Commission, said project was unsuitable because Lanzhou is listed as among China's most water-scarce municipalities. "The most important thing is to gather people in places where there is water,"

so, ok, let bulldoze 700 mountains where there is no water.

wtf???

China will flatten 700 mountains to make way for a new desert metropolis in what is believed to be one of the biggest mountain moving projects in the country's history.

Last year the World Health Organisation named Lanzhou one of China's most polluted cities with the worst air pollution and a shortage of water.

except it doesn't make sense because thousands and thousands and thousands are homeless right now from floods and other disasters.
yet this ghost cities remain EMPTY.

so who are they for?

they are certainly not for the people who live there now.

I had to look up that NYtimes article they talked about.

Snip; Already, four shopping malls in China are larger than the Mall of America. Two, including the South China Mall, are bigger than the West Edmonton Mall in Alberta, which just surrendered its status as the world's largest to an enormous retail center in Beijing. And by 2010, China is expected to be home to at least 7 of the world's 10 largest malls.

Chinese are swarming into malls, which usually have many levels that rise up rather than out in the sprawling two-level style typical in much of the United States. Chinese consumers arrive by bus and train, and growing numbers are driving there. On busy days, one mall in the southern city of Guangzhou attracts about 600,000 shoppers.

Developers, however, argue that their solution improves upon Mother Nature.

“Lanzhou's environment is already really poor, it’s all desolate mountains which are extremely short of water,” Angie Wong told the Guardian.

“Our protective style of development will divert water to the area, achieve reforestation and make things better than before.”

right.

Ambition on this scale is admirable.

Now, if America could only channel groundwater long distances to where it is needed, and cut down a few mountain ranges that prevent clouds from going to dry places...

Op,

Do you believe it is a ghost city or an Agenda 21 housing facility for the herded citizens after all the United States is doing the same experiment and it reeks of the UN mandates puppet obama is willing to foist upon Americans.

New Mexico Building Fake City to Test Alternative Energy
New Mexico, home to several of the nation’s premier scientific, nuclear and military institutions, is planning to take part in an unprecedented science project — a 20-square-mile model of a small U.S. city.

A Washington, D.C.-based technology company announced plans Tuesday to build the state’s newest ghost town to test everything from renewable energy innovations to intelligent traffic systems, next-generation wireless networks and smart-grid cyber security systems.

Although no one will live there, the replica city will be modeled after a typical American town of 35,000 people, complete with highways, houses and commercial buildings, old and new.

I am gonna let you guys in on the plan:

Around twenty years ago, I came across info about MSG. I was a teen at the time, and I didn't think it was very nice that people were putting addictive chemicals in food "so it will taste better."

People joked about it, but in the last 20 years, the obesity rate has skyrocketed and this was very much on purpose.

Keep your eyes open the next time you go to a Chinese buffet restaurant:

1. Most of the customers are obese or overweight.

2. Most of them are REALLLY enjoying the food and they are shoveling it in like gangbusters.

3. The customers will push their plates away and say "I'm done..." and 10 minutes later if they do not immediately leave, they are back at the buffet. This is not a normal behavior, this is a function of the chemical makeup of the "food".

4. The employees, when they go on break, do not eat the same food that the customers do. They will eat white rice, meat, and vegetables, but they will NOT get it from the buffet and they will NOT add anything to it from the buffet. The only exception to this that I have ever seen is spring rolls.

I have suspected for 20 years that the Chinese are attempting to undermine our country from within by making us fat and slow.
It is working.
Within the next 20 years, they plan to completely destroy our country and take the land. The ghost cities will be for their citizens who currently live over here.

"China has already entered the middle-income stage of development, but the development is “unbalanced”, especially when it comes to the widening gap between town and country, Mr. Li said.

Disparity means potential, in other words, China’s biggest potential for development in the coming decades lies in the process of urbanization, he added.

[…] A UN report, titled Urban and Rural Areas 2011, predicted that nearly 70 percent of the population will live in urban areas by 2035. Over the next two decades China will build 20,000 to 50,000 new skyscrapers and more than 170 cities will require mass transit systems by 2025."

i want to see this UN report.
this is not some "prediction" this is a man made effort to rid of all things rural there.

wtf.
 Quoting: pink cat

China really does have a scale issue with their "family farms". They aren't 100 acres, they're 1/10 of an acre. Major inefficiency.

They definitely move people when those people are in the way of some project, like road construction. And it's not something you can fight. They try to provide equivalent or better housing. Sometimes the house is better but the location is worse, because they're moving people off of valuable central real estate.

But sometimes people play games to take advantage of this. I know of one village (in China, which I'm talking about) where everyone has expanded their houses, they are about 2000 square feet each. Sure it's nice living in such a large space, but the real reason is that they expected to be relocated and the compensation would depend on the size of the house. Well the plans changed and they weren't relocated, and now they all have their large houses. :)

If you don't like the forced relocations, then you should like the plan to bulldoze hills in Lanzhou rather than more fertile areas. Because anywhere more fertile, those hills would have many people living on each one, probably terrace-farming the hillsides.

That's the thing with various complaints about China. They're damned if they do and damned if they don't. They have less resources than we do, more people, and a history of non-expansionism and they're doing the best with what they have. Why all the complaining?

They got themselves into it. They got to get themselves out of it in a more respectful way to nature. But since that is not their way of life then their fate is sealed.

China was better off when most rode around on bicycles. Now they all want cars. That is NOT progress. That is a death sentence. Contempt for nature is suicide. That is something all countries on Earth must realize. That is the main reason the world is headed to their destiny of doom.

All true progress is spiritual. It is NOT technological or mechanical and it is not material. It is totally spiritual. We grow with an understanding towards how this place works in a respectful, gentle way. Not in a harsh, brutal, indifferent way.

the harsh, brutal and indifferent does lead to a day that we better grow the hell up but it is a very harsh way to learn. And the outcome usually is NOT to our liking. Doom.

But not to worry. After the doom comes a nice balanced paradise. Sure is a hell of a way to learn though.

It was Mao Zedong's insane policy to reward women for having many children, after there were already 400 million people in the country. They've been dealing with the aftermath ever since. And by the way, there's no restriction on saying that Mao made very bad mistakes. Everyone agrees on that. There's an almost reflexive fear of letting the government have too much power in one man's hands and letting that happen again.

So, do you go everywhere by bicycle? Why not? Is hyper-environmentalism only good for those other people? Did Chinese have a famous contempt for nature when they were riding bicycles and we were driving gas guzzler cars?

What's "hyper" about it ? Where do you live on mars or on the moon ? You live right here on Earth. The ONLY place we know of that can support life. If there is another place in the universe we will never get to it anyway so this is it for us. There is NOTHING "hyper" about it. It is respect and that is the end of that.

This is something ALL countries on Earth must learn. Not just China. It is our destiny to learn it. Respect for life MUST be across the board or there are horrible consequences to learn.

Doom is as natural for a global society as is the air, food and water.

ALL life on Earth must live here in balance or there is imbalance and that imbalance leads to doom. It is really a very simple equation of life.
