In a recent Aviation Week article, U.S. Army Lt. Col. Ray Pickering, product manager for infrared countermeasures, said a CH-47 Chinook helicopter had been targeted by multiple antiaircraft missiles using infrared-seeking weapons. "If we lost a CH-47 a week for six weeks, the war would be over," he told the magazine. Other media outlets have quoted sources worried that more advanced, Russian-made missiles could be smuggled into Afghanistan, since similar missiles shot down coalition helicopters in Iraq. Quoting: insertfunnyusername Deliveries were made between 2009-2011. Eat it up. How do you know? What is your source? This is common knowledge lads. A simple google search with the words "Syria Iskander 2005" would help you find endless sources. Because of NATO reaction the 26 Iskander units that Syria has today couldn't be delivered before 2009-2011. Last delivery was made in December 2011. Here is a source backing you up: [link to www.pakalertpress.com] "Western diplomats said Assad’s military fired new missiles and other weapons acquired from Moscow in late 2011 during an exercise that took place on Dec. 20." |

Thnx. I'm pretty sure there are more news about this out there going years back. As i said i remember the story coz Greece was kinda involved and interested to buy these things, but we pulled out after the noise the export to Syria made. Then we learned that we're broke too, hehe. Last Edited by insertfunnyusername on 12/08/2012 11:54 AM |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 27614234 I do. :) Persian name for Alexander though. isn't it cool to name a missile to one of the greatest heroic legends (maybe not so heroic)??!! I just don't get why Iran doesn't do that....they name them in Arabic they don't name their domestic missiles (Cyrus, or Dariush, or Xerxes) It would be kinda inappropriate, considering the islamic revolution overthrew the shah. I doubt they want to make such obvious connections to that. but even the Ayatollahs are proud of their Persian heritage..but they like their neighboring Arabic heritage even more i guess....what a shame Imagine if there was no country Stop the Sabre Rattlings and Wars |

The system is designed to work quickly and efficiently. As soon as Green Pine detects an incoming missile, the fire control center, called “Citron Tree,” launches its interceptor missile. The 23-foot long interceptor shoots toward the threat at nine times the speed of sound, and reaches a height of 30 miles in less than three minutes. Once it gets within two seconds of its target, Arrow’s optical detectors aims for the incoming missile’s warhead. The interceptor’s own explosive warhead detonates within 40 to 50 yards of the missile, allowing Arrow to miss its target and still neutralize the threat. In this manner, Arrow differs from U.S. interceptors like the Patriot Advanced Capability-3 (PAC-3) and the Theater High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD), which rely on hit-to-kill technology in which the kinetic force of a precise impact causes the destruction of the threat. Arrow’s speed and range (approximately 100 kilometers) allow it to intercept incoming missiles at a high enough altitude so that any nuclear, chemical, or biological weapons do not scatter over Israel’s cities and military targets. This high-speed, high-altitude intercept also gives Citron Tree enough time to launch a second interceptor in the event that the first one fails to destroy its target. The fire control center is capable of operating up to 14 interceptors at the same time.
