Iran has strongly condemned the US for carrying out a nuclear test in Nevada this week, saying the move threatens world peace and shows a hypocritical set of double standards set by Washington when it comes to nuclear research.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry said the Wednesday detonation proves that US foreign policy relies heavily on the use of nuclear weapons, disregarding UN calls for global disarmament, PressTV reports.

The experiment also drew criticism from Japan, with Hiroshima Mayor Kazumi Matsui wondering why the Obama administration carried out the test, despite saying he would “seek a nuclear-free world.”

The test proves that the US “could use nuclear weapons anytime,” said Hirotami Yamada, who heads the Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Survivors Council.

On Friday it was announced that the Nevada National Security Site had successfully detonated plutonium in a deep shaft Wednesday to test the safety and effectiveness of US nuclear weapons, National Nuclear Security Administration officials said.

Right, I know which site we are on and who we are dealing with.

But in the 60s and 70s when nuclear testing was always happening, the gov would send out warnings a day or two before stating that earthquake like tremors would be felt when a scheduled bomb was to be blown off. And right on schedule the earth would shake.

Did anyone feel any shaking near Los Alamos or Las Vegas today? Please post if you did.

They also use underground nuclear exposions for what is called nuclear terraforming.

They use cold fussion explosions (not radioactive nuclear fission) to create giant underground caverns which are then cleared out and built into deep underground military bases.

It saves 2-3 years time per complex. Some of the caverns are used to store water, fuel, equipment, or supplies.

No one is saying it is safe.

a) terminally deadly
b) Plutonium - 239 has a half life of 24,100 years.
c) see a.

Just seems to be a lot of speculation that there was some kind of mushroom cloud explosion this last week. I live near these sites so I am the first to say WTF!?!?!?

But it is good to hear there are scientists studying this crap to assure it doesn't do something we don't expect it to do while sitting there while it is half-lifeing.

Cheers!

No offense to you US guys, but this is just more typical US "you do what we say or else, we do what we fucking please". One rule for us, another for the rest of you.

I swear to god this tactic is just designed to cause wars. What do they think is going to happen? We have loads of nuclear, make as many as we wish...but no, you can't have any! You have to have our permission to even have nuclear for energy purposes! Why? Because we say so!

How would you feel living in a town where every has giant spiked sticks, hordes of them, and the neighbors pend the day testing the "stabbing efficiency"? And they say you can't have them? OR THEY'LL COME GET YOU? And you aren't even allowed to grow trees for the fruit...incase you use the trees to make spikes to defend yourself? Is that simple enough...? LOL.

Am I wrong here?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 5637281

The article says it was subcritical, those aren't covered in the treaty. It's testing old nukes incase we have to use them... I do have to say it's pretty foolish to do andnot have it classified, unless they are flexing their muscles toward Iran. (Well, it's foolish for anybody to have anything nuclear, let alone detonate it)
