Speaking to journalists covering the 8th IISS Regional Security Summit currently being held in Manama, Bahrain, British Foreign Secretary William Hague stated that the United Kingdom “hasn’t ruled out any options on Syria in the future,” indicating that there are “contingency plans” ready should the Assad Regime resort to using chemical weapons.

When asked by Al Arabiya regarding what level of intervention the U.K is considering in case chemical weapons are used in Syria, the British Foreign Secretary said that his country and others have “contingency plans” as he refrained from discussing details of what these plans entail.

When asked if intervention would be considered in case of deployment (of the chemical weapons)or only upon using them, Hague responded by saying that there are ‘many different scenarios’ when it comes to using chemical weapons, but that it would be ‘too simplistic’ to identify a ‘single red line.’

British Foreign Secretary William Hague said on Saturday said that there is evidence that the Syrian government could use its chemical weapons stocks in its conflict with rebels fighting to oust it.

"We are extremely concerned about the stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons, and we are also concerned about evidence during the last couple of weeks that the regime could use them," Hague told reporters in Manama on the sidelines of a regional security conference.

He said Britain had joined with the United States in delivering a strong message to President Bashar al-Assad's government.

"We have contingency plans concerning chemical weapons but will not disclose them," he added.

That's the big question for sure.

I think those chem weapons are going to become much more dangerous to the region because reports are saying Russia delivered Iskander missiles to Syria !

Does anyone know if those things can be equipped with chemical warheads...cos if that's the case TSHTF in the middle east !??

Every inch of Israel is within range of those things and even if Assad doesn't arm them with chemical warheads, they still can deliver 1,500-pound payload which would be devastating to Israeli cities !

This is a real game changer and a major escalation IMHO !

I feel sorry for Syrian people, be prepare to taste the chemical weapon of the FSA rebels with the help of NATO/WEST/Israel/France/EU :(

Yes they can. And sarin isn't the one you have to worry about. They have VX gas too. Assad has had these chems, and a viable delivery method for at least 15 years, and he's never made any noise about attacking Israel. If Assad’s regime falls though I assure you Israel will be the first target of the new Islamist government.

That is my biggest fear ! I hope Assad isn't crazy enough to launch one of those things at Israel, it will start WW3 !
