This is one of the few years in the recent past where Passover is on the full moon that cone after the 1st new moon after the winter.summer solstice is it not? (bit of topic but I seldom get to chat with somebody really familiar with OT calendar knowledge)

Western dates get messed up when leap months happen do they not?

it must be noted particularly by the religious that the Roman Catholic Church celebrates The Immaculate Conception, from wikipedia:

What is Chanukah all about? Our Sages taught: On the 25th day of Kislev begin the eight days of Chanukah; one may not mourn or fast on these days. [The holiday was instituted because] when the Greeks entered the Holy Temple they defiled all of the oil reserves of the Temple. When the Hasmonean kings overpowered them and conquered them, they found but one jar of oil that remained sealed with the mark of the High Priest (denoting that it was not defiled), which contained enough oil to light the Menorah (golden candelabra) of the Temple for but one night. Miraculously, the oil sufficed to light the Menorah for a full eight days. The following year, the Sages accorded these days permanent holiday status, during which we praise Hashem with the "Hallel" prayer and thank Him [through reciting the "Al ha'Nisim" prayer -Rashi]

It is an awesome reason...I love the story it has to do with a Miracle where there was only a little oil left to keep the candles lite yet there was enough "somehow" until more was made available...really nice!

When you try to transliterate a word from a Non-English alphabet into an English one, it leaves a lot to the imagination. And you get variant spellings because the "real" spelling does not use English letters at all.

The matter is made worse in this case because the first letter of Chanukah is a "Chet."

It is a sound that many people who have no experience with either Hebrew or Arabic find hard or impossible to pronounce. They often mis-speak it as an "H" sound.

But I don't think how it's spelled really matters at all IMHO ! It's the holiday that matters, the festival of lights !
