IwasKidding User ID: 27554728 United States 12/08/2012 12:16 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Yes of course.I am familiar with origins of christianity.Religon has its roots ever since man came down from a tree. But religion is in evolution together with minds and spirits of human kind.I find todays religon much more developed in everything then when it used to be pagan or even when neandertals worshiped sculls and bones.Spirit of a man is evoluating through ages so is his perception of world,God and universe. Quoting: La_ladum ... Quoting: amarilloemily We are commanded in Scripture to keep the Holy Days that YHVH set forth they are His Holy Days or appointments with His people not "jewish" holidays. That being said, Chanukka is not a commanded moed of our Abba but is a day of celebration of an amazing victory over evil. Now, non Christian holidays?...Are all founded and based on pagan gods/goddesses. Do a search on Christmas and easter and read for yourself the origins of these so called Christian holidays which are never mentioned in Scripture nor hinted at in anyway. You may be amazed that all this time you feel you are honoring the Messiah when you are in essence slapping Him in the face with pagan tradition. God Himself spoke to Moshe and is recorded in Deut. "Do not accept the way of the pagans and worship Me as they do their gods, it is an abomination to Me". Paraphrased You're nuts. Man is not going up (evolving). He's created technology that he can't control. He's poisoning his nest. The highest race, Whites, seem intent on breeding itself out of existence. Man will go down either through sudden destruction or slower devolution. I do not believe there is a "highest Race" it is very troubling to me that this is even said.... |

Quoting: mopar28m :7brmenorah: What do you mean tomorrow night ? It has already begun ! Chanukah 2012 begins in the evening of Saturday, December 8th and ends in the evening of Sunday, December 16th ! Perhaps in the US it hasn't started yet but in Israel it has ! |

And you get variant spellings because the "real" spelling does not use English letters at all. The matter is made worse in this case because the first letter of Chanukah is a "Chet." It is a sound that many people who have no experience with either Hebrew or Arabic find hard or impossible to pronounce. They often mis-speak it as an "H" sound. But I don't think how it's spelled really matters at all IMHO ! It's the holiday that matters, the festival of lights ! And the wishes offered up with love!!! |

Quoting: IMAX Well, from what I've read, the holiday celebrates two things; a great Jewish military victory and a miraculous supply of oil for the Temple. 1. Celebration of the re-dedication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem after the Macabees' defeat of the Greek-Syrian army that had invaded Israel. 2. And the miracle of the oil. They only had one days worth of oil to light the eternal flame in the temple, but the lamp miraculously stayed lit for 8 days which was enough time for more oil to be brought to the temple. Hanukkah pronounced [Xanu'ka] in Modern Hebrew; a transliteration also romanized as Chanukah, Chanukkah or Chanuka) *note* I do not have the font to make the X into the Hebrew letter it should be in Modern Hebrew. It shows up as weird symbols.
