Evolution has never been about optimization. But it is optimization through natural selection. So I am not sure how you can argue against that. Having gone from a Christian to an Atheist to a hopeful Agnostic... I've seen/ pondered all points of view... First of all, belief in evolution does not exclude religion. Go watch the movie Prometheus. Although it's sci-fi... the beginning of that movie is a excellent analogy to how "God(s)" could have manipulated life. Secondly, to support Atheism takes a much larger leap of faith than any belief in a creator. I love to use Movies as examples of my arguments. For this argument... I'd urge you to watch the movie TOY STORY... Atheism in it's rawest form absolutely believes the animation of the toys who star in this movie is 100% possible. It's turtles all the way down. |

Sorta like my putting on a winter coat does not make me a higher evolved human. And I am not trolling you... I am actually a closet fan of your replies (most of the time)... But this instance is the exception. Also, Mutations are not evolution. Evolution acts on mutations. Mutations confer diversity. Genetic mutations happen all the time. Only those in your germ cells are inherited. And, in reference to your other statement, mutations can also cause cancer - in an individual. Genes that increase the probability of cancer-causing mutations can be inherited. If you get a change in the allelic frequencies of these genes over generations, this is an evolutionary process - regardless of whether or not it is beneficial to the organisms. And adaptation (or an adaptation), in an evolutionary sense, can refer to a process or to a characteristic, respectively. |

That is a bit of an ego-centric view. Its called 'the tree of life' because of all the branches. And chance plays a huge role in determining which branches persist. I'm not implying that evolution is the only force at work, but we can't deny it's existance. |

The most intelligent thing one can admit is that they are completely ignorant. True....but with deductive reasoning along the lines of occam's razor it is possible to come within range of actuality. There are obvious laws that block the fantasic version of our origin vs those avenues by which the laws are not broken. My God is powerful enough to create us without breaking any of his own laws.
