ARE BB GUNS ANY GOOD FOR DEFENSE???

It doesn't have to be wasp spray....it could be oven cleaner....it could be window cleaner, it's all about the delay that your attacker does not expect. You have to make "room".....time. Whose side is time on when it's unexpected?

Which makes a pellet gun completely the wrong choice. If you are willing to kill a person . Then you want a 12ga shotty with double O buck .

Op seriously these people are going to get you killed. Unless you shoot someone in the eye it wont kill them. And anywhere else if they are clothed is only going to sting them and make them very very angry .

In which case you want bear spray. Keep in mind if youre going the less than lethal route you need something that will be so devastating they wont be able to breathe well or see . Which bear spray will take care of both .

If you shoot someone in the chest or even face other than the eyes with a pellet gun they will scream and get over the pain in about 5 seconds maybe due to adrenaline and then viciously attack you to make sure they dont get shot again. And by then they will be so mad better hope they dont end you .

They aim is to stop the attack . Not help the intruder get so mad they cant help but kill you .

There are big differences in guns. "BB" guns typically aren't high powered. They're mainly for "plinking" which is knocking over cans etc.

Air guns/rifles are much higher powered and can be used for hunting. While most are made for killing relatively small game, they make air rifles made to kill big game, (Cape Buffalo sized game)..but that's not what you're looking for obviously. :) I personally have no interest in killing animals, but bought it for the hell of it with the plans of target shooting, then decided I didn't have time for it.


High powered, 1200fps (feet per second) guns shoot .177 and .22 ammo and are lethal. They're often adverised as "varmint hunting" guns. The ammo you showed in the youtube video is a "pellet" used in these types of guns. They make target practice pellets which are simple "domed" pellets like the ones you showed. They make hunting specific ammo with names like "wadcutter" and "hollow point" ( because it spreads when it hits the animal and, well, you get the idea), they make ammo with synthetic tips that are kind of like "armor piercing" ammo on a smaller scale.

YES, to Wasp & Hornet spray. It's also recommended for trail & camp in case of large preditor attacks. Shoots a stream of poison up to 30-feet. Incapacitating to most humans when blasted into the upper body & face (especially at close range).

Another little known goodie is 5-foot length CPVC tubing. Not expensive. Hollow, light-weight. Leaves nasty welts & goose eggs. Use to shellac the incapacated preditor.

The other item for self defense is plastic wrap. It makes great "rope" for hog tieing incapacated preditor. Use either before or after shellacing.

And remember, Always Put Litter in Its Place!

Maybe cabellas or somewhere like that. But if you use that stuff . go out a window or door away from the attacker cause if you use bear spray in an enclosed area and they run by where you just sprayed < the attacker > and you breath it in or have your eyes open . Well you wont be as bad off as the guy that just got the stream in the face but you will feel it and it may slow your escape.

So example youre in a hallway and intruder is in front of you spray him in the face and retreat immediately away from him to a bedroom or another place with a window you can escape .

If youre on a second floor spray him and barricade yourself in a room and call the police . And if you got him in the face with bear spray the cops will get there before he has any chance of recovering. Again that stuff is made to incapacitate bears.

I agree, Or get yourself one of these cheap pistol style crossbows that shoot the 6-8" steel tipped dart. I've shot those through a pumpkin and 2 plastic garbage cans. Totally silent and totally deadly if you want it to be.

Killing people is about accuracy. You can shoot someone in the leg with a .50 cal and they can live, or you can shoot someone in the eyeball with a ball bearing and a sling shot and they will die.

If someone is coming to kill you then you need to kill them first. In comes the shot gun only if you can handle it. Or a shot gun with a bean bag (non lethal) will stop the intruder in his tracks no matter how big the man is. my cousin is a cop and he has seen huge grown men cry and beg while laying on the ground not to get shot with a bean bag again

You have to be DEADLY ACCURATE to kill someone instantly before they can get to you with a .22LR. And if you are inexperienced with a firearm and your adrenaline is going chances are youre going to close your eyes right before the trigger breaks and you will be lucky to hit the intruder at all.

And a pellet gun same thing you're adrenaline is going to be CRANKIN and youre going to be shaking like a leaf due to shock of the situation youre facing.

Where a 12ga at 3 yards your average range inside a home you just have to be pointing in a general area but still aiming .


I seriously think these people suggesting .177 pellet guns and 10/22 s dont want the OP to make it out alive.

I saw a guy on one of those " inside jail shows " and this guy wouldnt come down from a basketball post in the rec area so the SORT team hit this guy like 3-4 times with a bean bag and he was sittin up there saying " is that all you got ? " and only until the 4th or 5th shot he said " ok ok , im coming down" and even then he wasnt incapacitated , he just didnt wanna get shot again .

I get where you're coming from with the closing your eyes stuff but on a .22? Who the hell closes their eyes on a .22 aha its got barely any kick to it.
