its kill or be killed

you refuse to kill

therefore you will be killed

being brutally raped first is just an added bonus

:skinners:get some .22lr ffs no one wants to to take a life
but some guy beating your family and ends up suing you for breaking in your home and you wound him rolls eyes get a shotgun lady dead

Finally someone speaks sensible. smh

You have to be DEADLY ACCURATE to kill someone instantly before they can get to you with a .22LR. And if you are inexperienced with a firearm and your adrenaline is going chances are youre going to close your eyes right before the trigger breaks and you will be lucky to hit the intruder at all.

And a pellet gun same thing you're adrenaline is going to be CRANKIN and youre going to be shaking like a leaf due to shock of the situation youre facing.

Where a 12ga at 3 yards your average range inside a home you just have to be pointing in a general area but still aiming .

I seriously think these people suggesting .177 pellet guns and 10/22 s dont want the OP to make it out alive.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 28647427

I get where you're coming from with the closing your eyes stuff but on a .22? Who the hell closes their eyes on a .22 aha its got barely any kick to it.
 Quoting: Dapurps

A woman that has never used a gun before , doesnt want to kill and has no idea what to expect out of any firearm.

In a home invasion you're going to have just a sec or 2 before an attacker sees you and begins his attack run on you. Your average person well experienced shooter thats put thousands of rounds through a 10/22 is going to need atleast 3 seconds to get on a moving eyeball target which is the only " flip the switch" killshot you can hope for with a .22LR

A woman whos unfamiliar with a gun *IF* she doesnt close her eyes < which she probably will if she has little to no experience > is not going to be able to get on a moving target the size of an eyeball with a closing range linear movement. It's just not possible . Not in 3 seconds.

Way to target women. I've gone shooting with a few women who've never shot before and they shot great. The stuff you're saying sounds like your typical girl in a movie. Guy or girl they can both suck but closing your eyes is movie crap. I've never seen anyone in real life do this.

Re: ARE BB GUNS ANY GOOD FOR DEFENSE???
The question was:

Are BB guns good for defense???

The answer is yes, but only in one specific situation. IF you have a high powered air rifle, it can have the same (or more) ft/lb as a .22 short over a very short distance.

The only way to use a weapon that is underpowered and capable of a single projectile in a defensive situation is VERY CLOSE.

This type of weapon must be used (and has been used) no more than 4 inches from the cranium. The preferred method is jam the barrel into the eye socket of the attacker while pressing the trigger.

If you are foolish enough to use this for defense, a large knife on the end of the barrel would be the most useful addition possible.

In other words, at any distance, a super-soaker filled with chlorine bleach or a high concentration of quality (HOT) chili powder and water would be an improvement.

At least get a crossbow if you are scared of firearms.

I've seen bullseye competitions with 10/22s that have a trigger job shortened match chamber and match crowns on the barrel and it takes roughly 3 seconds per target on something that is in perfect lighting not moving and the shooters are seasoned pro's with match rugers.

Well it should be quite obvious that anyone who doesn't know how to use a gun won't be able to target let alone find the safety switch in 3 seconds. This isn't the discussion here though. My very first post was a recommendation that he/she invest in a ruger 10/22 as a first user or a .38 revolver.

A .22 short is 70-80 ft/lb.

Now take a look at quackenbushairguns.

I did not want to bring it up and make anyone look foolish, but airguns around $500 - $600 are much more powerful than many rifles.

Re: ARE BB GUNS ANY GOOD FOR DEFENSE???
Keep in mind. Self defense in a house is probably going to be in less than perfect lighting , shadows , close quarters and the target will be moving at you FAST . Add the fact you're going to be scared and fight or flight will be PUMPING adrenaline into you and you will be shaking like a leaf.

If thats not enough throw lack of firearms experience into the mix and your caliber of choice being a .22LR or .177 pellet gun and chances are EXCELLENT you will end up dead.

In fact you'd probably be better off with no weapon and hoping for the best because the perp is going to be less threatened by you and wont feel the need to " put you out of commision " like he would if you had a gun.

It's true more people are killed by a .22LR than any other caliber EVERY YEAR .

A .22lr will kill anyone ........tomorrow.

If you're preppared to kill a human. A 12ga is going to be you're best bet in a house. If you're not sure you can actually kill someone then you dont wanna find out you cant when some big buck sew is charging you and you're better off incapacitating him with bear spray.

Just get a Ruger 10/22 or a .38 Revolver or a 12 gauge Shotgun with a short barrel if your accuracy isn't the greatest.

Because that was not the original question.

The consensus seems to be:

"no way"

However, some of our friends apparently are from other countries or states which limit their options. In that case, I suppose it is just trying to help show people what exactly is out there.

Also as a warning. Airguns can be just as deadly as a propellant firearm.

My weapon of choice cause Im a pretty good shot . Is a Glock 20 10mm that I keep 1 in the chamber within arms reach at all times . And if it is not within reach I have it or a .40 revolver holstered on my person everywhere I go .

I think its just silly to risk youre life with a single shot airgun. I'd think a person was trying to kill themselves if I saw that .
