How to be less self centered?

Brief has issues. He pushes a raciest agenda. Complete right wing nut. Probably a Trucker in his mid 40's who is indoctrinated by talk radio. I bet he lives somewhere in the south - southwest.

The opposite of Self centeredness is Truth centered-ness. You should seek to know the truth and begin to love the truth more than your opinions. When I say truth, I'm talking about what is in accordance with reality. For example, you should know that any given person's opinion about brain surgery doesn't mean a whole lot unless it aligns to what is actually true about brains. If a person doesn't care about what is true and goes to operate on a brain, the patient dies.
The same is true in your relationships with other people. There is a correct way to interact with a person in order to have a healthy relationship. If a person violates that the relationship begins to suffer and eventually dies.

If you understand what love really is (to want what is right more than anything else), then you can begin to judge your actions against that standard. If you do this, you will quickly find two things that hamper that correct motive - the need for significance and the need for love and acceptance. These emotional needs, when not properly met and managed, are the source of self centeredness. Men typically want so badly to be significant that they do things they shouldnt or that are harmful. Women want to be loved and accepted so bad that they do the same. These needs begin to drive people and most people don't even know why they're doing what they're doing. If you recognize these fundamental needs within yourself and seek to become do what is right and best instead of constantly feeding these needs - you will become purpose centered instead of self centered.

This advice will work for anyone willing to try it. Sadly, I have come to realize that some people are totally unwilling, or possibly cannot "walk a mile in another's shoes".

This last several posts have DEMONSTRATED how we should all practice being less self-centered. We could all apologize for getting angry. We could stop using angry, F- words.
It seems to me that someone started hurling insults at another for contributing to the thread. Personal attacks are very selfish on the part of those who make them. Verbal wars are uncalled for when the subject is how to be less self-centered. Kind of ironic that this thread turned into a free for all

Whether you get a KJV or New American Standard, when you have questions about the original meaning, get yourself an interlinear and see what the original language said, when there is doubt. KJV has translation errors, but then most versions do....after you really start digging in the Scriptures, then learn to check out the original meanings, as you will have questions about what was originally said or written.

You don't have to be an alcoholic to benefit from the wisdom of the program. As I said, any irresistible urge to do something you can't resist (sex/porn, shopping, yelling/raging, eating, smoking, dating compulsively, cleaning, enforcing rules, working, you name it) this book can be applied to. When we do something compulsively, it is coming from some kind of fear, which is a sign of an absence of faith. The book is mystical if you ask me, considering it and the program have allowed the worst of the worst cases to recover when no other program on earth offered them any hope.
