Quoting: BRIEF Birds are keen observers of activity and in many ways better at understanding cause and effect then we are. I'm not saying they are going to invent a cyclotron anytime soon but when it comes down to what is effective they are uncanny in their ability to figure out what works. It's a bird thing. They are the "sport models" of animals. I never forgive and I never forget I am a licensed firearm holder. I will, under protection of law, use lethal force if attacked. |

They are the "sport models" of animals. I've seen that one, it is pretty good. Let me be more specific. Birds in the wild have to observe what works without the luxury of being able to keep notes or collaborate with fellow scientist birds. They have to "wing it". This is outside of anything to do with spirituality, just simple natural intelligence. Some Ravens have shown problem solving abilities at near Ape levels. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 9266723 All birds and animals are a lot smarter than humans give them credit for. It's just because they can't communicate that people think they're dumb - that and they need the excuse to butcher and eat them. |

When I was taking a pesticide course nicotine was listed as more toxic then almost every other comercial pesticide, and the filters must be saturated with it. Quoting: Millstone Yes, the cigarette filters are saturated with nicotine however the birds appear to understand on some level they do control the parasites that feed upon them. Initially I thought they used the cigarette butts for insulation however, I put out fur from my St. Bernard and Anatolian Shepherd and find that straw and fur comprises the bulk of their nests however, I always find cigarette butts when I clean out the birdhouses in spring and fall months. It appears that the birds use cigarette butts much as I use tobacco plants around my garden in that they repel most insects and birds must benefit from fewer fleas and whatever feasting upon them. In my area their feet freezing to branches during ice storms is far more detrimental than a few cigarette butts dispersed within their nests. |

I have blue jays, blue birds, starlings, doves, some little red headed finches and a bunch of others. I go through 2 huge bags of bird food a month. They have started to live in a huge pine tree behind my house. I love hearing them sing and talk to each other in the morning. I call it out tree of life. It's full of squirrels too. |
