Quoting: Anonymous Coward 28235039 flying ones nationality flag is cool but while livng in the good ole USA the Stars and Bars should be flown on top of said nationality flag. Tis just a matter of respect and acknowledgement. I think you're spot on. Very well put. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 29378437 A few houses down, the neighbors put a big Mexican flag up on their front lawn. A couple blocks away, theres a house with a Polish flag on their front lawn. I feel this goes beyond paying respect for your country of origin. If you are an United States citizen, and you want to hang up a flag, maybe pay respect to your real home country - the one you currently live in, work in, and have oppurtunites in. I don't mean to sound like I worship the American flag or anything. It just fits in America, after all we are on American soil. The other flags just don't "fit". I understand there are occasions to wave another country's flag. Polish Constitution Day, Mexican Inderpendence Day, you see a lot of flags put up to pay support. Or even on the grounds of heritage cultural centers. Thats fine. Just bothers me to see a Mexican flag up down the street and it looks like a permanent fixture. We aren't in fucking Mexico! Would you feel the same if your neighbor was flying an Irish flag? Or Italian? I am American, my ancestors come from all over Europe. The only reason I don't fly flags to honor my ancestors is because my house would look like the UN. I see no harm in flying a mexican flag. Assuming they are citizens and fly the flag as a means of honoring their ancestors. But being American means pledging allegiance to the USA. So if the flag is a means of pledging their allegiance to or claiming territory for mexico, or any other foreign country, then maybe not such a good thing. |
I agree with you in this one User ID: 50520992 United States 11/24/2013 03:20 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Just a vent post, I guess.
