Your conclusion has taken the gravity effects of all planets in consideration as you say.

I take it that you didn't consider the gravity effect of this 'thing'. Could it give the asteroid just a little nudge so it slams into antarctica? It won't take much and it is in the same time frame.
Possibly the asteroid will pass the 'thing' before calling on earth.
