BP put new drilling rig over wrecked Macondo Well..Dec 4 2012
BP announced plans to further "investigate" the still-spewing oil at its wrecked Macondo Well and seafloor in that vicinity 50 miles off Louisiana's coast and, according to a Wings of Care flyover video and photos released Sunday, the company has a new drilling platform almost directly over that area

"The device will allow engineers to get a better handle on whether the oil sheen that was confirmed this fall by the Coast Guard is coming from a so-called cofferdam that was installed to capture oil right after the explosion — which is what BP has sought to claim — but could also show whether the oil is seeping from cracks in the ocean floor, a worst-case scenario," writes environmental attorney Stuart Smith Tuesday.

"We were surprised to find a new drilling platform sitting almost right over the wellhead, and a large drillship also in the vicinity," writes Schumaker. "We were dismayed to find many large surface slicks in the area, as well as some new ones along the eastern coast of Louisiana south of Black Bay."

"The new platform that has appeared over the Deepwater Horizon wellhead bears the name 'ENSCO 8502'," she says, providing additional photographs on the Wings of Care website.

"About 10 nm south of the ENSCO 8502 platform and the wellhead, we found a large mobile drillship named 'ENSCO DS-3' with two supply boats -- the C Legacy and the Jack Edwards," Schumaker meticulously reports about her flyover on Sunday. "A small oil slick was adjacent to this drillship running westward about 500 m, about 10 m in width. Another 2 nm farther south was a working BP platform 'MC474A,' which was flaring and which also had a small slick extending westward from it, about the same size, roughly 500 m in length and about 10 m wide."

Oh they know what's going on. And they should know that new oil rig is just going to make things worse. They should just leave things be and get ready.
And it's ironic too
'Cause what we tend to do
Is act on what they say
And then it is that way~Jem.

Hey Huck'. The folks on Bezerk have been discussing this too.

Many of us believe the floor was cracked at Macondo, and never was repaired. That one well was switched (camera feed) for another in a pointles exercise of cover up.

Corexit continues to be pumped at deep levels to create a blanket of sorts for the oil lake now centered over the Julia field, near the GoM 'gyre' where a number of currents meet, creating a whirlpool.

Interestingly, many new leases at the Julia field are for bottom based pumping stations, rather than floating rigs. Makes sense if a lake exists down there.

But the larger picture of the rupture at Macondo is the collapsing of the domes, allowing water ingress, oil travel, and melting methylhydrates.

The sink hole at Assumption Parish is a direct result of two years of water and oil ingress, as a cascade collapse of once solid salt structures is in progress. 200 miles in two years.

It'll go beyond Louisiana, most likely all the way up to the Great Lakes. There's Edgar Cayces prediction. (and Gordon Michael Scallion's too for that matter.)

Did you know they confessed to oil found at the sink hole belonging/matching that of the spill? They said it was cleaned up oil that had been placed in that dome for safe storage.....

Sure.

the more you study the BP leak and the LA saltdome situation the more you see they are connected. We should not have poked a hole in the earth that far down with that much pressure.

Fugro GeoConsulting, Inc. (Houston, Texas) — Fugro GeoConsulting has been selected for two projects for a total of $591,000 to develop plans for a pressure coring program at locations in the Walker Ridge 313 and Green Canyon 955 areas of the Gulf of Mexico and to develop analytical techniques that help better identify the existence of methane hydrate accumulations. The first project will focus on preparing detailed scientific and operational plans and recommendations for all aspects of a future offshore drilling, determining the hydrate deposit characteristics through electronic measurement, and recovering samples of hydrate under pressure so its characteristics may be more closely studied. The second project, which will receive $147,000, will develop techniques to generate more robust and reliable information on methane hydrate accumulations, including analyzing seismic data to determine how they interact with free gas accumulations.

The Ohio State University (Columbus, Ohio) — Ohio State University will conduct research in collaboration with the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management to increase our understanding of the occurrence, volume and distribution of natural gas hydrates in the northern Gulf of Mexico using more than 1,700 petroleum industry well logs that penetrate the gas hydrate stability zone, or the offshore depths and locations where gas hydrates flourish.

Wheres Mathew Simmons when we need his expertise and honesty.
He attempted to warn.
He was, up until his death, a member of the National Petroleum Council and the Council on Foreign Relations.

And then....Lets not forget a man who also new the methane situation and the can of worms to be unleashed.
"Simmons, who lived in Houston, Texas, died at his vacation home in North Haven, Maine, on August 8, 2010, at the age of 67.[5][6] The cause of death was ruled "accidental drowning with heart disease a contributing factor".[7]"

[link to en.wikipedia.org (secure)]
Simmons made several controversial comments and predictions regarding the Deepwater Horizon oil spill and BP's solvency, including:.........

Rest in peace Mr. Simmons. Thank you for your service.

Uh, hello??

I repeat, the ENSCO 8502 has been there since 2010. There's nothing "new" about it and this is what happens when people try to be armchair experts about something they've never actually gone out and seen for themselves.

Thank you for this info. The potential for the collapsing salt domes to spread is horrifying.

I had not heard about the sinkhole oil match with the ruptured well's oil but it is not surprising. No wonder residents of that area are now barred from attending meetings with Texas Brine.

The lack of response from Gov. Jindal is very disappointing especially since he was all over this situation at the beginning.

Hope you will post updates on the Macondo fiasco and its implications.

The Knotty Head field lies in Green Canyon block 512 in the Gulf of Mexico. It is operated by Nexen Petroleum with a 25% working interest. Other equity partners include StatoilHydro 25%, BHP Billiton 25% and ChevronTexaco 25%.

...

The Ensco 8502 rig arrived at the field in July 2010 and underwent sea trials. Due to the drilling moratorium placed in the Gulf of Mexico, acceptance of the rig is expected to be delayed.

...

ENSCO 8502
ENSCO 8502 is the second ultra-deepwater semi-submersible rig contracted for the field. Built by Keppel FELS in Singapore, the rig has the same drilling depth capability of 35,000ft as that of ENSCO 8501.

Green Canyon, block 185 is known as Bush Hill and is a well known cold seep with a wide array of tube worms. In this area, the first time in Gulf of Mexico gas hydrates were recovered in piston cores.

Additionally, like most of the Gulf of Mexico, there is a significant amount of salt tectonics.

Or were you saying it arrived in Mississippi Canyon in 2010 and that is where it has remained the whole time and the info that it was in Green Canyon was wrong?

I know it can all be so confusing.
