EBT allowances are rather meager. Have you ever tried living on $200 worth of food a month? It is possible but it isn't glamorous. You need to shop conscientiously, buy off brands and cheap foods. That is not to say you can't still have a well balanced diet including meat, dairy, fresh fruits and veggies.

Food is so cheap, there's almost no one in this country that can't afford food. What we have is people who want fast food and pre-made food, so you have people spending their EBT on Banquet TV Dinners instead of buying fresh (or even frozen) meat, veggies, grains and cooking for themselves. Most people who get EBT are just lazy, they want the gubment to pay for their pre-made food instead of having to spend time in front of the stove.
