What a great man.

His passing is so sad. He was an ambassador - one of the most inspirational and adored figureheads for cosmology that will never be replaced.

Rest in heavenly peace Patrick.

Thoughts to familly at this sad time. I truly think that the whole country will mourn his passing.

it's a shame he never let go of that hate. the people he's wishing dead were in the vast majority not even born when the nazis were doing their worst.

i suppose even the cleverest of us fall into the soul trap of hating for the sake of it.

He was getting old and it was just his time. He deserves respect, not a bunch of rumors flying around.

Some people have no class. The man is not even buried & already they are gossping like bitchy women.

The rumours are NOT new! The have been around for years. Just like the rumours about Savile and Cyril Smith.

His 'childhood sweetheart' story was a great cover. I'm not saying it's not true but lots of people lost loved ones in the war and rebuilt their lives and had future relationships.

Savile, Cyril Smith, Patrick Moore etc were all famous for NOT having relationships. Why?

And all that aside, he was also an extreme right-winger. Read up on his politics and his sexism. In NO WAY could he be described as a nice man.

you need to look deep into yourself my friend........even if your disgusting comment is true and who knows?, the man probably contributed more to humanity than you and your entire bloodline ever did, so pause for a moment and think before you spout vile stuff like that two hours after the man has died.

everyone had suspicions about saville due to him being a creepy bugger... but moore lived his life in a gentlemanly and scholarly way, still loyal to his wartime love..who knows?, if you are right, then thats a major blow to humanity, but at least let the dust settle before you throw muck like that, is every star of the seventies eighties to be tarred with that brush now?

I'll say it once more. I haven't made this rumour up. It's been a long-standing rumour. Sorry you are upset at me repeating it. But I find it hard to have sympathy, regardless of anything else, for such a horrible man whose politics disgust me.

thats fine every one is entitled to an opinion, but have you ever thought that your politics may disgust others... people have opinions, you may not like them but you have to respect their right to have them.

The man is dead, have some respect for the dead instead of pissing on his still-warm body over a rumor please. Your personal disagreements with his politics are not a good reason to behave like that.

Of course. Have I said anything to suggest otherwise? I'm exercising my right to free speech to raise a subject. I'm the one being shouted down. I'm not shouting back, I'm just explaining what and why I am saying what I am saying.

All I am saying is there have been rumours about him for years. That's simply a fact. Some people may not like that, that's understandable. But it's a fact.

Whether the rumours are true or not is another matter. But we'll see what comes out (if anything) in the weeks and months to come. Perhaps then we can revisit this subject.

The Sky at Night was the single last show I have watched from the BBC. Looks like I'll never watch anything from the BBC again now Patrick has passed away.

it seems that you dont have the sense to realise that people are not objecting to your views, just the ill mannered and distasteful way you have voiced them when the man has just passed... have some decorum and when the time is right, dont just jump in and kick the body before it is cold, that is why sir, you come across as a fool.

I was obsessed with astronomy as a kid and bought some of his books. An inspirational genius.

He's gone on to his "stage 2" now.

I remember him saying that after death,he believed we move on to stage 2!

Years ago he was staying at the same hotel in Blackpool as my parents, but when I asked my mother what she thought of him, or if she talked to him, she said more or less that his pants looked evil, because she thought he looked scruffy.
Must have been one of those kind of people her brain couldn't format. (half of the human race)
Went into a sort of bitter pill diatribe about him she did.
Silly bitch.
She's dead as well.

Help us by being coherent at least do that. The only thing in common between Savile & Moore is that they both died.
