Obama Administration just gave approval to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration requirement You can already opt into programs like this for 6 months or so and get reduced insurance rates as a result (permitting, of course, you drive like a sane person). Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1277549 If it cuts down on the number of asshole drivers around my neck of the woods, at any rate, I'll be for it. Getting us mentally aware/ready I guess. I wouldn't want one of those things in my car, I wouldn't want anybody to know what I'm doing or where I am lol. Just paranoia. Some people take their paranoia wayyy too far. This is one of those things that is actually a GOOD idea. You have to realize, that everything you mentioned that the black box records can help us statistical understand more about what makes drivers more/less at risk right before a crash. Now, if it recorded VOICES of the people in the car talking, I'd say HELL NO. All it records is mechanical information, which is GOOD. I'm all for it. Slap one of those puppies in every car as far as I'm concerned. |

Obama Administration just gave approval to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration requirement OK it's freaky to have anything monitor you BUT consider this... Look at the very GOOD side of Black Box Recorders... 6 out of 7 of my crashes were 100% the other driver's fault 5 out of those 6 COMPLETELY fucking LIED to ICBC to save their asses. (The 6th was actually a very apologetic lady at the scene who had already called into Dial-a-claim and admitted 100% fault before I even reported it - kudos to her) In the other 5 I had ICBC adjusters try to tell me new laws of physics contrary to the real events I experienced in the accidents. Needless to say for those times they tried to fuck with me I retained lawyers to ensure that my case was protected but because of the other cunts outright lying each time I was still only able to reduce the fault on each claim to 25% So Automobile Black Box Recorders? BRING IT FUCKING ON! Punish LYING SHITTY DRIVERS that make your insurance rates SKYROCKET And that 7th crash that was my fault? ...Black ice and too fast for road conditions - totalled my truck off the highway into a huge dead cedar. OOPS |

There are wayyyy tooo many assholes out on the rode. There is a pos lawyer up the hill, who has declared his house is a church so he doesn't pay taxes on it, who drives a juvenile pos corvette, like he's a punk teenaged jackass, revving it up and racing down the road by my house, in a school zone, like a fucking moron. Guess he thinks he is above the law, since his ilk make the laws. |

Obama Administration just gave approval to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration requirement The information recorded by EDRs includes: • vehicle speed • whether the brake was activated in the moments before a crash • crash forces at the moment of impact • information about the state of the engine throttle • air bag deployment timing and air bag readiness prior to the crash • whether the vehicle occupant’s seat belt was buckled [link to occupycorporatism.com] If you have airbags the SRS computer already records all of this. Obama Administration just gave approval to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration requirement Why is it so difficult to see that there is already a proportionate mileage tax in place? Every gallon of fuel purchased - there is a hefty (Federal and State) tax applied. Quoting: ClydeX Drive more than "average" (an arbitrary number applied as to what you "should" drive) or a less fuel efficient vehicle? Then you purchase more fuel, ergo you pay more in tax. I guarantee there will be none of this in any of our vehicles - and yes, I am more happy driving the old Rover. There are already "Black Boxes" in all vehicles made since the '90s that record throttle position, braking, speed, engine rpm and some other things and do this in a loop of about 10 seconds of data. When your airbags deploy the last loop is saved and insurance companies and law enforcement can take this data. This is why after an accident where the bags deploy you need to replace the airbag control unit. Look up "On Board Diagnostics Two" Or OBDII. [link to en.wikipedia.org] I suspect the new Black Boxes will have transponders and GPS, along with the ability of law enforcement to do a scan when you are pulled over or stopped at a checkpoint when the want to see if your papers are in order. |

It seems people have for the most part conformed. People are saturated with this crap everywhere they go to point of nobody caring anymore. Sometimes I wish for a fukitall switch. I know we all do. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24392638 It should be. we all need to be programed to obey the law. I think we should be fined when buying a sports car, pre emptively Perhaps a separate requirement for black boxes in all sports cars? I'd be cool with it as long as they got every last fucking Miata owner one |
