How the government plans to destroy small online business!
This proposed bill has been called assault on tax payers!! However most are FOR it saying "taxing Internet purchases is just common sense"!

Cited from article:
The Computer and Communications Industry Association, a group that opposes this move, says that an online sales tax will burden small businesses, “some of the most promising candidates for future economic growth.”

Even Amazon has already stopped their affiliate program in IL from the state requiring taxes for online purchases. So if it burdens a company like Amazon, what will it do for smaller companies when it's required for all sales!

Just another way for the government to force us to fund them!

bitcoin and anonymous transactions is where all this is headed. Sooner or later, some bright person is going to find a way set up an amazon style site, which will really all be on your PC via peer to peer, and all the online retailers are going to move to that structure. Amazon will go out of business as everyone shifts their buying and selling peer to peer.

Thanks for the pin! Yes I think this is a small part of the big picture of controlling the Internet. I happen to be the owner of a small online business and I can tell you right now this would be a HUGE burden on me at this point. So as for the comment on a "group that opposes".... All online business owners should and probably do oppose this'

Now we got to the old problem: the 6 million US small businesses have NO representation whatsoever.

What they call "small business" (Joe the plumber) is just a small a fraction of that 6 million, the rest of them are a lot smaller with no employees or just a few

bricks.

Well, The Internet Tax Freedom Act (ITFA) has been renewed through November 1, 2014. However states, like IL, were still able to override this by passing their own laws. This would be the government itself completely rewriting/abolishing the act. Taking away what we have fought for in one fell swoop. Having to follow the guidelines for each states sales tax, Florida for example taxes by county, and then having to remit the taxes to each state. Obviously you can see how complicated this will be for someone trying to maintain their online business.

I don't know what the problem is. Without the US gov. collecting more taxes, how do you think they're going to pay for vital services such as the TSA and the patriot act?

cowgal Amazon can be annoying with constantly jamming your inbox, but I find them generally reliable. To be honest I have no confidence in sending my money to Joe Bloggs out in the sticks somewhere.

Also it requires infrastructure which you will soon realise if you ever see a video of their warehouses.

The damage is already done. How many more stinking small businesses do they have to destroy???

My husband's business was ruined thanks to the economic slump, now they want to continue to take out more???

There already are too many suffering people out there thanks to the economy, and yet, instead of the government helping, they want to ruin more lives.

Pretty sure anything you want/need in the future will be from barter. The fastest growing economy in the world today is the black market, soon anything you need from batteries to rice and expired twinkies will be purchased via the black market.

1) Taxes too high 2) dollar will become worthless and merchants won't even accept payment in dollars.

Perhaps online sellers should unite and boycott the TAXING STATES !
People would start writing their Congressman if they could no longer get the STUFF they want online because vendors decline to sell to States with too many parasitic regulations?
Think about it.
As in 'Sorry I do not sell to CA.IL. Because........
That would get peoples attention. fast.

Good thing I'll be moving out of the country soon. I wonder how they'll operate when all the ones who are actually contributing to society get fed up and flee and they're left with just illegals and welfare recipients. Maybe their goal of communism, socialism, and fascism dictatorship will finally be more achievable?

Re: How the government plans to destroy small online business!
I sell in online to the rest of the European Union, based in the UK.

This is how EU sales tax works.

Only businesses who volunteer or who have an annual turnover over $124,000 have to charge sales tax.

All UK customers are charged sales tax at the UK rate of 20%.
UK businesses registered for sales tax can claim the sales tax back from the government. So they effectively do not pay sales tax.

All other EU customers are charged sales tax at the UK rate of 20%.
EXCEPT if they are a business registered for sales tax in their own country, then they do not pay.
Even if they are charged they can claim the sales tax back from their own government.

Anybody outside the EU is not charged sales tax.

Different EU countries have different rates of sales taxes and corporation taxes.
So if you are a private individual then you can buy something from another country at a cheaper rate. But you pay more in shipping charges, so it isn't any cheaper.

If you purchase something from outside the EU then your government may still charge you sales tax on the value of goods imported.
There are a few UK companies that starting selling from the channel islands to avoid charging customers sales tax, which they may still be liable for as above.

Different EU countries have different rates of corporation (business profit) taxes, which is why many USA companies have their European headquarters in Ireland or Luxemborg.

With close friends with family still in Cuba, I can tell you this is (black market) a byproduct of communism. Every country where the government becomes oppressive heads down this path.

It sucks. But it seems the main opposition to this is not "small" online business--it's big ones like Amazon.

Small businesses that do business offline are subject to state sales taxes anyway. Why aren't you crying for them?
