Gravity inversion board.
If overweight - you know what you have to do
I smoked 3 bowls a day for the first month then tapered to zero in 4 months. Nothing - and I repeat nothing - relaxed the spasms in my back and let me sleep until a friend had me try. 15 minutes later the spasms were relaxed. Truly a gift from Heaven.

Yeah there truly is not much worse in my book, the spasms I had the first time I wouldn't even wish on old barry! If it's not gone in a couple days I think I'll get some herbal meds in the meantime! stoner

Ok so today we got a foot of snow and I looked out the window to see a few cars stuck on the street. I have an offroad rig and decided to clear it off and go pull them out. put on my boots and stand up and bam!( No good deed goes unpunished rings true again but that's ok) The yearly messed up back that drops ya to the ground! I got pissed this time and said you are not keeping me down this time mother F@#$%^!! So now I made it back in and trying to figure out ways to cope without meds because I don't have any and not going to the doc. Any advice appreciated as I am not going to let it keep my laid up for 2 weeks like the first time! peace

Actually I currently have/had sciatic issues pop up from running. I went to Dick's Sporting Goods at bought some KT Tape. I've had it on since friday night and worked out for the last three days without any pain. It's the first time I've ever used it and I love it. I also use BioFreeze which you can get at the drugstore. Look for stretching videos on youtube as well. Good luck.

I don't know if this is applicable to you - but each time I 'put my back out' this has helped me tremendously. The following have been given by a back specialist (who was a friend):

Lie down on your stomach (this position rests your back in natural position without stress.) Then lift yourself up unto your elbows (with your back having a backward bend.) Then, if that is Ok (for me, even though I had excruciating back pain these positions were not only comfortable to do, they greatly relieved the pain!) then using your hands, lying on the floor on your stomach, straighten your arms pushing your back as backwards as possible, stretch as far as you are able and hold for 10 seconds. Slowly lower yourself and relax. Repeat this movement a number of times.

You will know if this is the right exercise for you, because you will feel an immediate improvement if it is. And (very important) absolutely NO forward movements at all (like bending over) until you are pain free for two weeks - and then you can slowly do stretches in both directions - very gently with the forward stretches, but none at all to start with.

I had the same thing not too long ago. It was in my lower right side. I went to work, when I walked in I told the owners daughter and another employee that I may not be able to work. The employee, who is also a massuese, told me to turn around. She located a knot in the upper left of my back near my spine, kinda at the tip of my shoulder blade. She massaged it for 4 or so minutes and told me to let go of whatever was pissing me off. It really worked. It was still sore but I was able to work

I am a chiropractor. I can tell you results vary depending on the level and cause of the pinched nerve. If it is from tight muscles in the glutes/piriformis region then easy fix. If it is a mild buldge to the lateral sides its just as easy. However if it is beyond a buldge and is a protrusion or sequestered (disc ruptured and jelly is traveling along the cord) it is a more serious medical matter.

Go to a Chiropractor, get xray, and MRI to ensure the doc knows exactly what is going on.

Traction, Flexion Distraction, spinal decompression techniques are key. Standard Adjustments of the low back are also a must.

In the mean time, utilize any means of deinflammation (natural means have been detailed already on the forum).

Ice application. I would not use a heating pad they can make swelling worse if you are not careful.

I treat this daily in its various forms weather its from disc, or simple misalignment, poor articulation and motion of the vertebra, and compression from tight muscles.

check out a psoas muscle stretch and piriformis (I would do this once you are on your feet again daily to ensure you reduce compressive muscular factors.

good luck, god speed.

I've had that before.

The only thing that works for me is Valium, or Lorazepam, and Acetominaphin.

The next best thing would be Valerian Root, and Ibuprophin, or Aspirin?

You are fucked and going to suffer without something.

I think Sugar, Corn Syrup, and difficult bending, twisting and stress precipitated my attack.

I went through three years of severe back pain. Then I tried taking "Move Free" by Schiff. There are a few types, and perhaps all work, but I would suggest the "Move Free, Advanced, Triple Strength."

Costco has it, and every pharmacy has it on the shelves. I would think it can also be found at Walmart. Sometimes the pharmacies will advertise, "Buy One, Get One Free."

I take one per day, but directions say to take two. You MUST take it everyday for results. That's what I did three years ago, and within two months, I was pain free. I stopped it for a while, and the pain came back in about six months. I'm taking it again.

It's worth a try. Good luck. I hope you feel better.

You have a slipped disk OP. The only way to prevent it from happening in the future is to exercise. You have to build up the muscles that support the disks.

As far as dealing with the pain you're feeling right now I suggest acupuncture. Seriously, it works.

Re: Pinched nerve in lower back AGAIN!!! Advice please!
Does the sciatic pain go below the knee?? If not, you need to stretch and walk. Walk miles a day if you can.. even if you have to load yourself up with pain meds..

When I ruptured the disk in my back.. the sciatica pain went into my toes.. and I literally could not stand or sit or sleep for months. Nothing cut the pain. 12 years later I still suffer with the atrophy of muscles in my leg and the numbness in my foot.. But I still work, I'm still active.. and I can walk without a limp(that took 5 years)

Point is.. keep active or you will certainly get worse..
