It was a joke, a prank, which hurt her. You might not think of it as much, but to her, it affected her a lot. She lost face. You don't understand people from different cultures are affected by the same things differently? They most certainly were acting bad, calling under assumed names, to get info -- when they found they were getting through they could have put a stop to it.. but didn't. They are culpable.
