LAKE ELLSWORTH - Antarctic 'lost world' to be explored this week!!!
Final checks are under way in Antarctica before the launch of a daring attempt to investigate an ancient lake beneath the ice-sheet.

Lake Ellsworth lies below ice that is at least two miles (3.2km) thick.

Its pitch-black waters have remained isolated and unseen for up to half a million years.

This will be the first attempt to extract uncontaminated samples of water and sediment from a body of water so far below the surface.

Been a long time waiting for this... Will this be another Lake Vostock 'damp squib' or will this throw up some real deal scientific discoveries?

They should put in an underwater drone and explore the lake 24/7 and stream the pictures live so the whole world can see instantly what's going on.

No worries,The Russian's are hopeless... Contaminated the fuck out of the bore hole.. No way they could get conclusive results...
Brits do it best!!! Camera going down, taking sample of water and then taking a core sample of the lake bed.. First results back in a week...

They will probably release the results on Dec 20, telling us we all have 24 hours...

A nice bio of Lincoln Ellsworth the Antartic explorer the lake was named after..

Lincoln Ellsworth was born into a prominent religious family in Chicago, Illinois on May 12, 1880. His father was responsible for building one of the first skyscrapers in Chicago, the Ellsworth Building. Their spacious home at 1827 Michigan Avenue housed a library filled with first editions and an art gallery containing a collection of important pieces by famous artists, including Rembrandt's "Portrait of a Man."

Interesting character this Mr Ellsworth.... Amazing what you can find..

Hitler's revolutionary activities in Germany landed him in prison for five years. This so called prison was 'Lenzburg Castle', a comfortable, privileged pastoral setting where Hitler was groomed for the job of' Fuhrer'.

Interestingly, the owner at the time was American Lincoln Ellsworth, son of James Ellsworth, a former Banker who served as president of the Union National Bank of Chicago.

So is this where Hitler was groomed and why he had such an interest in what was under the ice?? All down to Mr Ellsworth??

..NASA also does water shows.and submarines have been around way longer than most think.20,000 leagues under the sea was mostly non fiction.no sea creature can harm the fleet, and the only water cloak helps us stay in power.along with the rest of the German Tesla inventions.nessie was a roman invention of native wood and the rubber from south american trade to create a 'monster' and with the help with our bribed "prophet" to drive the monster away.. the plans to convent all the pagans through the trickery of Judean Christianity with its leftover Egyptian magicians/scientist priests was put into place in another area.

Re: LAKE ELLSWORTH - Antarctic 'lost world' to be explored this week!!!
"December 28th, 2012
This is clearly a very disappointing time for the team who are now busy draining down the systems and preparing all the cargo for uplift – not an insignificant task. However, whilst the field season did not turn out the way we had planned, there are a number of valuable lessons we can learn from this experience which will contribute to the collective, global knowledge in hot water drilling.
The consortium will now regroup and take stock of the situation. There are lessons to be learned and there is equipment to be serviced. The fundamental science questions raised by the programme remain viable, interesting and unanswered and the consortium will be preparing plans to revisit the exploration of subglacial Lake Ellsworth at some point in the future.
So keep watching. This is not over yet!
Finally, we would like to acknowledge everyone for the tremendous support and encouragement we have received. I know you will be as disappointed as we are about this outcome, but the enthusiasm with which you have followed our progress has been extremely uplifting for us. On behalf of the field team and the wider consortium I would like to say “thank you”. We wish you all the very best for a happy and successful 2013.
Chris Hill
Subglacial Lake Ellsworth Programme Manager" (С)
