TORNADO WARNING TO Southern MS & Eastern LA!!! Widespread trees, power lines damaged, car wash destroyed in Baker, LA.!!!

So far, so good here in NE Louisiana. Had tons of rain last night and some felled limbs but right now it's getting colder so I think the weather has shifted with the front.

Don't know of any tornados touching down. We own a lumber yard and hardware store so we are usually one of the first ones to get the call from the frantic homeowners.

Personally, I am glad it's getting colder. My roses are still blooming and my lemon tree has blooms. Crazy weather here. Usually at least one hard freeze by mid December but so far, just a few light frosts and temps in the upper 70's all autumn long. Not very condusive for the holiday spirit.

10:31 a.m. CST: Trees were downed 6 miles north Prattville, Ala.

10:13 a.m. CST: ABC 33/40 TV Meteorologist James Spann tweeted that a possible tornado was located near Loxley, Ala., moving northeastward.



8:55 a.m. CST: Ascension Parish Emergency Management reported a possible tornado with damage in two areas 1 mile north of Gonzles, La.

@AdamskiPeter Tornadoes can happen any time of year, typically winter tornadoes are rare. Autumn tornadoes, though are common.

The National Weather Service confirmed a EF1 tornado touched down in Ascension Parish. Several homes and even a fire station were damaged. The area off Black Bayou Road between LA 44 and Airline Highway got hit with strong winds around 9 Monday morning. Residents there are thankful no one was injured. Ascension Parish resident Angel Hutchison's day began with startling news. She knew about a tornado warning for the area before she left for work, but never thought she'd hear of such strong weather damages. "I got a phone call from him saying that a tornado had come," Hutchison said. Her son was at home when severe weather rolled through her neighborhood tearing up trees, ripping off roofs, and crushing cars. Winds reached as high as 90 miles an hour. "Scared, because he heard the whole freight train sound they always say you hear and he heard that. I was just worried about him," Hutchison explained. Residents say the sound lasted only a few seconds, but the damage left behind could take weeks to clean up. Hutchison's neighbors' homes were also damaged. People went out in the rain and patched up their roof with tarps. Meanwhile, firefighters at the 7th District Fire Department saw similar damage.

The National Weather Service has confirmed that storm damage in Birmingham, Ala., was caused by a tornado with maximum winds estimated at 90 mph. Forecasters say the tornado hit at about 4:45 a.m. Monday near the Birmingham farmer’s market. Mayor William Bell says there are no reports of injuries. However, the storm damaged roofs and broke windows. He says the city provided tarps to residents whose roofs were damaged. Homeowner Clint Thornton said that he was about to leave for work when he saw a funnel cloud. Thornton says he took cover in a closet with his wife and started praying. The Thorntons are fine, but nearly all the windows in their home are broken.

An EF-1 tornado hit an area of northwest Birmingham early this morning, officials with the National Weather Service confirm. The tornado reached speeds between 80 and 90 mph and hit sometime between 4:40 a.m. and 4:50 a.m., NWS official Jim Stefkovich said. NWS says that the tornado's path was 1.05 miles long and 250 yards wide at its widest point. Stefkovich said no watches or warnings were issued because a tornado signature never showed up on the radar. Several homeowners are now cleaning up after the small tornado severely damaged their neighborhood. The area, located around the Finley Avenue area, suffered damage to buildings, downed trees and downed power lines. Insulation has been seen stuck in the trees and roofing shingles and other debris are strewn across lawns.
