It was just like a camera's flash bulb. Huge flash but nothing like lightning. I was wondering if it was a bit of meteor or something but I've seen those before an they made the sky green and had a tail. |

Nasa Film UFO Fireball Over Texas 2012 [link to www.youtube.com] That was on the seventh. I saw this lastnight around 10pm. It was a white flash like that though. Not the usual green you see at night. It lit the entire sky with white light for just a split second. Since we had clouds maybe that spread the light out a bit. |

According to JPL Horizons data, previous close approaches were: 1982-Nov-11 --- 0.4910 AU 1991-Apr-14 --- 0.2563 AU 2002-Feb-22 --- 0.1752 AU 2012-Dec-11 --- 0.0015 AU (next) [link to ssd.jpl.nasa.gov] :roids: fixed |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 851578 United States 12/10/2012 09:59 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | So, an asteroid is discovered on the 9th and will come by on the 11th... that's only 3 days notice. Who's to say a bigger and more devastating one won't show up before the 21st (or sometime soon)? All of these scientists who say that if something were coming to destroy us that we would see it by now are full of it...it could happen, despite what they say - they don't know everything. By the way, I also saw the flash last night (it was like lightning in a clear sky). |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 17040466 United States 12/10/2012 10:05 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | 36 meters is not that small. 118 feet, about the size of a 12 story building Quoting: Anonymous Coward 17040466 That's dinky in the world of asteroids. It likely wouldn't even penatrate though out atmosphere, and even if it did what survived would be a small fraction of it's original size. On a typical meteor shower, the average meteor is the size of a pea. |

NASA MAde a contradictory statement about about asteroids hitting earth around December 2012. See below [link to www.business-standard.com] World won't end on December 21: NASA scientists Quashing the 'doomsday' rumours, top NASA scientists have assured that the world won't end on December 21, 2012. "The world will not end in 2012. Our planet has been getting along just fine for more than 4 billion years, and credible scientists worldwide know of no threat associated with 2012," NASA said on its website. Did you catch that? Now, see what he said at the ending of the publication. On danger of Earth being hit by a meteor in 2012, scientists said that NASA astronomers are carrying out a study called the Spaceguard Survey to find any large near-Earth asteroids long before they hit. "The last big impact was 65 million years ago, and that led to the extinction of the dinosaurs. We have already determined that there are no threatening asteroids as large as the one that killed the dinosaurs," they said. So, on one hand, he is saying that there is no threat but on the other hand he is saying that they have this committee setup to look into asteroid impacts and that there is a chance we have asteroid impacts but they wont be as large as the ones that made dinosaurs extinct? If indeed anything does occur, it will be interesting that it just so happens in the very month and year the Mayans and ancient cultures speak of? Consider also the pope's statement about "Stars falling from the sky". Seems they are saying somethings might hit this december. Hmmm! Last Edited by Ohwell on 12/10/2012 10:38 AM |

Yes, and if a good asteroid squishes some ants and uncles on our planet that day...it'll just be a coinkidink... Best Wishes, Uncle Alyosha And here's a GLP-appropriate Bible verse (atheists may read, too): God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise, God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong. - 1 Corinthians 1:27 |
