I really love being in line with an EBT person in front of me. They stack too many things and then the cashier has to go through the stuff and tell them; you can not get this, you have too many of these, and then you see that they can not even speak English.

Since when have they started limiting what people can buy? My aunt gets food stamps and I have seen her buy 50 of something to a time when its on sale, sorry but thats just pure BS. Secondly if you are referring to illegals getting FS then you also are full of BS because only legal citizens of the US can get food stamps.

Of course, they could enact legislation that would give an advantage to companies producing here in the US and it might produce some jobs. People WILL work if there is a job and it doesn't pay slave wages.

They may have surged in NJ due to the recent storm. Some people lost everything and are getting SNAP to get by. I believe it is temporary though.

How does one qualify for foodstamps? Serious question. I'm finding it harder and harder to afford the inflated food prices.

Senior citizens and university students can get food stamps [SNAP debit card] and MANY do, even if they don't need it.

I don't have a problem with food stamps actually, it's a genuine necessity. Many people really do need the help. And private businesses make a ton of $ off them, too.

Food stamps keeps grocers afloat, which keeps jobs at grocery stores afloat, which keeps food manufacturers and farmers afloat, which keeps trucking jobs afloat, and so on and so forth.

Say what you want about 'evil gubmint money,' but it works.

My kindergartener brought home some sort of food catalog from school last week. It offers prime rib, filet mignon, buffalo steaks, stuffed pork roasts with pine nuts, truffle oil infused potatoes, organic vegetable dishes, high end desserts etc. It also has shrimp cocktail platters, gourmet cheeses, wine lists etc.

I was reading through it and noticed that the company apparently works with both private and public schools. The ordering page has "WE ACCEPT EBT/food stamps".

I thought that when you were on foodstamps you weren't allowed to buy certain items. Apparently you can buy whatever you damn well please, right down to hors d'oeuvres and wine for your holiday parties.

The 'progressive' master plan has always been to precipitate a 'crisis' and societal collapse, hoping the more far left radicals among them would fill the void. Behind the scenes, many hardcore 'progressives' instigated violence, chaos, pushed social policies that made violent street crime worse, increased the dysfunctional dependent class, while at the same time demand more and more $ to 'end poverty'.

Hardcore radical far right conservatives also got in on the act. Many of them hope for a collapse also, for the same reasons the the loony left do.

You can buy FOOD with food stamps, minus take out food. If it's food, you can buy it if the seller accepts ebt and snap.

People don't get HUGE amounts of $ on food stamps. I highly doubt the vast majority are going out buying extremely expensive gourmet food items.

The USD is the world's reserve currency and will be for the foreseeable future. As for the rest, how do you compare Australia with the United States? Australia you said has 20-25 million people, the U.S. has the 3rd biggest national population on Earth at 320 million.

47 million may seem huge to someone in Australia, it's roughly 1/12th of the U.S. population.

I just thought it was odd. Sometimes when I'm shopping at the big grocery stores, I'll see a little note on the shelf next to items like beans or tuna fish that says "EBT approved food". Not sure what that even means now.

Also, I thought a great many dead beat people bought and sold their foodstamps? Big business fraud... then you have the Old Dirty Bastard types who get foodstamps just because they can. I want to know why the government allows companies who sell gourmet items to accept food stamps in the first place. Isn't that asking for abuse?

WTF? Do you have the name of the catalog? I've never seen them send home ANY type of fundraiser containing prime rib or meat or anything BUT then again all of that stuff goes right into the trash as we don't have money for the overpriced stuff they sell anyway. That's unbelievable though that they highlight that they accept EBT, so I guess the food must not come pre-cooked.

Most people have no problem with food stamps/EBT/SNAP for people who really NEED it.
Also, this thread is about the sheer number of people that are being driven into poverty and now NEED food stamps/EBT.

food stamps also keep prices artificially high and removes the incentive to earn a living. government money does nothing except make people dependent and voting to keep the gov money coming in.

Supposedly the federal portion of the food stamp amount is not for illegal aliens, however of course their children are eligible.

On the other hand Washington state proudly proclaims that the state portion of the food stamp amount is available regardless of citizenship status. They do not ask for documentation for the state portion here.
